Malaysia Airlines has revealed the design and specifications of its first Airbus A380-800 aircraft, which will be delivered in June 2012. The aircraft will have a new livery on its exterior.
The aircraft will have eight seats in first class, 66 in business and 420 in economy – 494 seats in total. The aircraft will be doing thrice-weekly flights between Kuala Lumpur and London.
The aircraft’s first class seats will have an 87-inch lie-flat bed and a seat pitch of 85 inches (216cm). The A380-800 will be fitted with a Thales in-flight entertainment system and there will be a USB port and a satellite telephone facility for all seats across all three classes.
Malaysia Airlines has an order of six A380s, five of which will be delivered this year. The carrier has plans to have a second A380 on the Kuala Lumpur-London route, and possibly an aircraft for the Kuala Lumpur-Sydney route.
The chief executive of Malaysian Airlines, Ahmad Jauhari Yahya, said, "The investment in this latest aircraft, its technology, futuristic style and innovative design in cabin comfort are our initiatives to ensure that our passengers continue to experience an exciting new level of comfort, luxury and convenience. This is the identity that will move us from 'traditional classic' to 'premium contemporary' in our efforts to position Malaysia Airlines as a preferred premium carrier".
