This repaint package showcases a tailored Blue Grey style for the Maule M7 260C, originally created by the talented artist Daniel Wanvig. Designed for Microsoft Flight Simulator X, this visual modification offers an understated yet sleek look for the default Maule M7 included with the sim. It pays tribute to the rugged nature of this short-takeoff-and-landing (STOL) taildragger while giving it a distinct exterior finish. Below, you will find brief technical insights about the aircraft, accompanied by precise instructions for a swift and accurate installation.
Refined Exterior Highlights
The Maule M7 260C is well-known for its reliable Lycoming engine outputting 260 horsepower, which grants it considerable power-to-weight performance. Its wide-stance landing gear and classic taildragger design promote excellent handling on remote runways or uneven fields. In this free repaint, the Blue Grey finish underscores the aircraft’s versatile character while adding visual depth during scenic flights over mountainous regions or coastal landscapes.
Performance Notes
Built to cope with rough zones, this Maule variant emphasizes short runway capabilities and steady control at lower speeds. The intact five-seat configuration and the spring-aluminum gear exemplify its ability to serve both scenic cross-country tours and bush flying adventures. Pilots will appreciate its forgiving flight profile, though caution is advised with taildragger landings in crosswind conditions.
Step-by-Step Installation
- Add the Texture Folder: Locate your
Maule_M7_260C
folder, generally under:
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X\SimObjects\Airplanes\Maule_M7_260C.
Copy the included folder named Texture.bg into theMaule_M7_260C
directory. - Configure the Aircraft.cfg: In the same
Maule_M7_260C
folder, open aircraft.cfg using a text editor. Append the following code, ensuring you place it below existing entries:
[fltsim.xx]
title=Maule M7 260C Blue Grey
sim=Maule_M7_260C

sound=
texture=bg

description="Maules are rugged and simple. These traits, along with their short-takeoff-or-landing capability, make them popular among bush pilots. The Maule M-7-260C is a taildragger with spring-aluminum landing gear and a wide stance, suitable for taking off from and landing on rough, unprepared surfaces. Its 260-horsepower Lycoming engine provides power to transport up to five people at a relatively fast cruise speed. Ease of handling (with the usual caveats about landing taildraggers in a crosswind) and economical operation round out this plane’s sturdy virtues. The ski option adds to the 260C’s versatility."
Update fltsim.xx so that xx matches the correct sequential number (for example, if your last entry was [fltsim.4], make this one [fltsim.5]). - Complete and Fly: Save the changes to aircraft.cfg, start the simulator, and select the Maule M7 260C in the new Blue Grey livery.
Note: This package contains only the repaint files. If you do not have the base Maule M7 260C model installed, you will need to acquire it from the Fly Away Simulation mod library. Once ready, load into your favorite remote airfield to experience the responsive flight dynamics of this resilient aircraft.
