This reworked Raptor add-on brings the iconic Colonial vessel from Battlestar Galactica into Microsoft Flight Simulator X with a powerful blend of science fiction aesthetics and rigorous flight dynamics. It integrates vectored thrust, advanced control surfaces, and innovative spoiler systems to offer a unique in-sim experience that is both visually striking and technically robust.

Raptor Adaptation For Modern Sim Environments

This release, developed by Bruce Fitzgerald, presents a fully realized Raptor inspired by the Battlestar Galactica universe. The exterior model highlights a distinctive aerodynamic shape that remains stable under heavy loads and reaches impressive top speeds. The dynamic envelope accommodates swift transitions between low-speed hover maneuvers and supersonic-like velocities (stretching to 2667 knots within FSX’s limit), all while preserving full control authority.

Maximum Performance And Structural Integrity

The Raptor’s performance envelope has been tuned to handle extreme G-forces. It capitalizes on high-output, vectored thrusters and specialized flaps that provide strong lift and precise yaw control. These components facilitate agile handling during advanced missions, while SuperSpoilers help dissipate velocity when swift deceleration is crucial. The fuselage is constructed to withstand pronounced aerodynamic pressures, ensuring stability at various altitudes and speeds.

Detailed Cockpit Elements And Custom Animations

The Rev. 2 update incorporates a static virtual cockpit (VC), allowing simmers to experience a structured pilot’s view inside the Raptor. In addition, the modeling team introduced an animated canopy and retractable landing gear that sync seamlessly with specific phases of flight. Even the smallest cockpit touches, such as instrumentation layouts, reflect a style reminiscent of the futuristic original.

Radar And Gun Effects

For sim enthusiasts looking for an extra layer of immersion, this revision also includes fictitious weaponry and a functional radar display. The integrated gun effects simulate rapid-fire bursts, and these visual cues help replicate the signature combat role seen in the Battlestar Galactica series. Though it remains a non-existent class of aircraft in the real world, these features capture the spirit of the Colonial Fleet’s flexible utility ships.

Enhanced Hovering Flight Control

Deflection flaps in combination with vectored thrust grant the ability to hover—an uncommon feature among standard aircraft. This capability, though entirely science fiction-inspired, behaves reliably in Microsoft Flight Simulator X. It allows for intricate short-field operations or station-keeping near terrain, which can be especially useful when performing detailed sightseeing or discrete mock reconnaissance missions.

Visual Presentation And Package Contents

The Raptor’s highly efficient design is complemented by accurate texturing and enhancements to the airframe shape. These refinements aim to depict the Raptor’s fictional utility as a dual-purpose transport and reconnaissance craft. This freeware release includes a comprehensive base model, meaning all core files are bundled for immediate installation into the simulator environment.

Appreciation And Final Notes

Every improvement in this revision pays homage to the aesthetic seen in the Battlestar Galactica narrative, while Bruce Fitzgerald’s attention to detail ensures a cohesive flight dynamic that challenges sim pilots. From extreme acceleration to stable low-speed handling, this Raptor package offers a meticulous fusion of creative science fiction and precise flight modeling. It stands ready to be flown in missions that span everything from high-speed intercepts to leisurely tours of planetary landscapes—and all in one unified freeware bundle.

A lot of fun to fly, everything works, you need to play around with the views a bit to get cockpit and virtual works zoomed out, but awesome speed and control.

I enjoyed the speed and it is a challenge to fly and a lot of fun to get as close to the ground as possible. I like the cockpit and the looks of the craft and it is fun to fly something very different. I think I would pay $10 for this.

What a FAST plane!!! The only thing it could use is hover more like a helicopter but besides that GREAT JOB!

a lot of fun, would rate higher but for the fact it isn't a "real" plane, some of the things it can do are too futuristic, but well worth a fly or 2

A very fun plane to fly. You should be an experienced flyer though. It is very easy to download. It is my favorite little air craft for flight sim x. Get this it can hover with full flaps and speed break. Well in all a very excellent plane to down load!
