The Canton Virtual Railroad is open, using Rich Garber's Canton Railroad. Started by the staff of the highly popular Ohio Valley System, the Canton VR does the same thing for the short lines that the OV does regionals. Canton's incredible scenery and its ability to be "placed" almost anywhere will make it a sure hit. And being backed by one of the most popular VR's on the net means it will be well supported and a lot of fun.

Train simulator enthusiasts everywhere looking for a change of pace should appreciate the Canton Virtual Railroad software that really sets the bar for what a virtual railroad should be.

Offering hundreds of miles of track and a great deal of photorealistic scenery, the Canton Virtual Railroad will provide hours of entertainment for any simulator enthusiast. Virtual railroading is an offshoot of flight simulators that developed a few years ago. It is a blanket term, covering all forms of rail simulations.

Virtual railroading initially took off by a team of programmers who modified a flight simulator to allow for trains to be used in it. The trains were operated with different physics, and the track system was primitive at best initially, but the seeds had been sewn. Recently, full train simulators have been developed, among them Canton Virtual Railroad. Canton

Virtual Railroad is set in the Canton Line in Ohio, and attempts to take the train simulating experience and make it a full package. With many of the modern features of flight simulators, including beautiful photorealistic graphics and realistic physics, Canton Virtual Railroad allows drivers to enjoy the blissful world of train conducting from the comfort of their computer desks.

Canton Virtual Railroad is a pioneering piece of software, and has many innovative features sure to keep hobbyists and budding professionals alike entertained for hours on end. Much like plane simulating software, virtual railroading involves a great deal of planning. Ideally, every trip is planned in full, taking into account such variables as the weather’s effects on track conditions and other environmental factors. Also important to calculate is the total load being pulled by the engine, to make sure that enough power is given to pull it all, without overpowering it and causing a potential disaster.

For flight simulator fans looking to move on to another genre or for railroad enthusiasts, Canton Virtual Railroad is a fantastic way to explore a new world of entertainment.
