This repaint delivers a vivid depiction of Iberia’s Lockheed L1011 TriStar, originally leased from Air Atlanta Icelandic (identified as TF-ABM) between late 1997 and mid-1998. It is intended for flight simulation admirers who wish to enhance their virtual flights with a historically accurate Iberia scheme. Although the base model designed by Thomas Ruth and Erick Cantu is not included, you can obtain it separately through the Fly Away Simulation library. Below, you will find detailed instructions on installing the textures, as well as further information about its specifications and background.
Key Add-On Attributes
- High-Fidelity Textures: Choose between 2048×2048 DDS high-resolution renders or 1024×1024 DDS for improved performance.

Historical and Technical Background
Lockheed’s L1011 TriStar made its first flight in November 1969. It later entered service with Eastern Air Lines in April 1972. Built in limited quantity (250 airframes produced until 1982), it showcased advanced systems such as an automatic flight control system for the final approach and an innovative RB211 engine design from Rolls-Royce. Meanwhile, Iberia, headquartered in Spain, has a legacy of operating various wide-body jets in its long-haul fleet. During the late 1990s, the airline briefly utilized this TriStar variant via leasing agreements, providing unique operational flexibility for transatlantic and European routes.
Installation Guidelines
- Extract the downloaded file into a temporary folder.
- Depending on your preference:
- For enhanced performance, install the textures from the “1024×1024 textures” folder.
- For higher visual fidelity, use the “2048×2048 textures” folder instead.
- Copy the folder named
texture.Iberia
into the “Tom_L1011-100” directory, commonly found at:
OS (C)/Program Files(x86)/Microsoft Games/Microsoft Flight Simulator X/SimObjects/Airplanes/Tom_L1011-100 - Before editing the
aircraft.cfg
file, create a backup copy. Then add the following entry, adjusting the “X” to the subsequent fltsim index:
