Upgrade your FSX environment with this detailed Delta Airlines repaint of the Lockheed L1011 TriStar. This package, authored by Paul Craig, provides textures only and is fully compatible with the freeware model by Thomas Ruth and Erick Cantu (available separately). It offers a faithful reflection of the classic registration N735D, which once soared across the skies under Delta’s banner.

Historical Notes on the TriStar

The Lockheed L1011 TriStar was produced during the 1970s and early 1980s to compete in the mid- to long-range market. It incorporated advanced features for its time, including an autoland system (technology used to automate the landing phase of flight, especially helpful in low visibility conditions). Delta Airlines used this trijet extensively on key domestic and international routes, highlighting its reliability and passenger comfort.

Background on the Add-On

This repaint leverages the original geometry and flight dynamics included with the freeware L1011-100 model designed by Thomas Ruth and Erick Cantu. Paul Craig meticulously prepared the textures, ensuring the Delta Airlines color scheme aligns with recognizable branding elements. The repaint is distributed at no cost and relies on the TOML1011.ZIP base package, which you should have installed for a seamless experience.

Required Base Model

The core L1011-100 model is not included with this download. You must acquire the original freeware package, typically found in the Fly Away Simulation library under the same model name. Once installed, you can apply this repaint to experience an authentic Delta Airlines configuration.

Installation Steps

  1. Extract the downloaded files to a temporary folder.
  2. Copy the folder named texture.Delta Airlines into the Tom_L1011-100 folder, which is typically located here:
    OS (C)/Program Files(x86)/Microsoft Games/Microsoft Flight Simulator X/SimObjects/Airplanes/Tom_L1011-100
  3. Update your aircraft.cfg file:
    • Make a backup copy of the original aircraft.cfg.
    • Open the file and scroll to the last [fltsim.x] entry.
    • Paste the following code, substituting an appropriate sequential flight sim number for X:

Requires dependencies

This add-on may require the following files to function properly. If this is a repaint, the dependency below is likely the base aircraft package.

How to install this mod

FSX / P3D add-on
  1. Extract the downloaded archive

Use 7-Zip (free) or WinRAR to extract the ZIP to a temporary folder. Don't install while still zipped — the simulator can't read inside ZIP files.
  2. Place files per the readme

Most FSX add-ons go into one of: SimObjects\Airplanes\, Addon Scenery\, Effects\, or Gauges\.
  3. Always read the included readme

Every mod ships with a readme.txt or README file. It tells you exactly where files go, what dependencies are needed, and any quirks specific to this add-on.
