Coming to replace the Embraer EMB-120 when the latter was taken up for maintenance, Yak-40 suited the requirements of Air Moldova in perfect style. The several striking features with which the aircraft was manufactured made it convenient for the airlines to operate scheduled services to various destinations in Europe.
As the national airline of Moldova based in Chisinau International airport, Air Moldova has transported 487,000 passengers during 2011, which is a remarkable achievement by all standards. Air Moldova, which came into being in 1993, found resounding success in operating Yak-40 in several selected routes from Chisinau Airport, including to Prague and Vienna.
