This freeware repaint reproduces the 1978 Air Canada livery for the Douglas DC-9 Series 30, adding a distinctive retro vibe to Microsoft Flight Simulator 2004. It uses only texture files and does not contain the required base model. In order to fully enjoy these materials, you will need the freeware SGA DC-9 from the Fly Away Simulation library. The repaint is by Frank Idone and pays homage to one of Canada’s major carriers that employed the short-to-medium range DC-9 for many years.
A Glimpse into 1978 Air Canada Colors
The authentic 1978 scheme featured here showcases the classic Air Canada logo paired with a striking red cheatline spanning the fuselage. Pilots will appreciate seeing the era-defining markings that once transported countless passengers across North America. Since the DC-9 excelled at serving smaller airfields, it was in high demand among airlines like Air Canada to expand connectivity in regions with limited runway lengths.

Key DC-9 Series 30 Details
The Series 30 frame of the McDonnell Douglas DC-9 was introduced in the late 1960s, extending the fuselage to roughly 119 feet [36.3 m]. This modification allowed a seating capacity of up to 115 travelers, with more than 800 cubic feet [around 25 cubic meters] of space for freight. Boeing-designed JT8D engines propelled most of these units, delivering substantial thrust tailored for short-runway operation. Additionally, the wings on the Series 30 boasted leading-edge slats to enhance low-speed lift and overall short-field performance.
Installation Steps
