The Johnson Flying Service Douglas DC-2 in the registration N4867V brings a classic Montana-based livery to Microsoft Flight Simulator X. This package features a repaint created by Tim Scharnhop for the payware Douglas DC-2 developed by “The Uiver Team X.” As a note, this add-on is strictly a livery; you must acquire the original payware model separately from a venue such as SimShack. Revenue from the DC-2’s sales is donated to the Aviodrome, a renowned aviation theme park and historical museum located in the Netherlands. The repaint highlights a vintage aircraft once operated for smokejumper missions, while also being utilized for aerial spray work.

Key Details on the Aircraft’s Background

The Douglas DC-2, first introduced in the mid-1930s, significantly contributed to commercial passenger transport and military logistics. Johnson Flying Service, stationed in Missoula, Montana, employed this particular DC-2-118B (construction number 1368) with the tail sign N4867V. In later years, it found a home at the Museum of Flight in Seattle, where it now bears a TWA scheme. Because of its versatility, the DC-2 not only served as a pivotal airliner but also supported specialized tasks such as smokejumper deployment during wildfire suppression.

Installing the Custom Livery

  1. Extract (unzip) the downloaded “dc2X_jfs.ZIP” to a temporary directory, ensuring you keep all folder structures intact.
  2. Open the extracted folder and locate texture.jfs. Move this folder into the Douglas_DC2_X directory found in SimObjects\Airplanes within your main simulator installation path.
  3. Using a text editor of your choice, open aircraft.cfg in the Douglas_DC2_X folder. Add the block of code below immediately after your last [fltsim.XX] entry, swapping XX for the next sequential number.
