MSFS UK Missing Piers Scenery

UK Missing Piers Scenery restores coastal navigation landmarks with hand-crafted, manually placed models of iconic British piers, from Bournemouth and Boscombe to Southport and Walton-on-the-Naze, many with night lighting and select animations. Designed for Microsoft Flight Simulator, it steadily expands coverage to fill gaps in the default coastline.

Expert Overview

This comprehensive add-on for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 enhances the UK coastline by introducing detailed, hand-placed pier scenery that was either missing or incomplete in the default release. Featuring a wide variety of piers from locations such as Boscombe, Bognor Regis, and Southport, it significantly improves the visual realism along popular seaside regions while also including features like night lighting and an animated funfair ride.

Each pier has been meticulously modeled without any automated processes, ensuring unique authenticity and careful attention to local details. Developed by veteran enthusiasts Keith Hackett and Kevin Base, this ongoing project is regularly updated with new piers, promising flight simmers a continuously expanding collection of iconic UK landmarks that immerse you in the coastal landscapes like never before.

The start of a series of releases bringing famous UK piers to the Microsoft Flight Simulator (MSFS) 2020 release that are missing or incomplete from the default MSFS install.

Bournemouth Pier scenery displayed in FS2020.This scenery pack adds missing or incomplete pier structures from around the UK.  The list is extensive with the major piers already included but the developers have stated that their long-term project is to cover every missing pier in and around the UK coastline.

We will continue to update this release on Fly Away Simulation as they become available.

All of the piers included in this pack have been hand-crafted, hand-placed, and generated manually - not using any AI or automation.  They are as realistic as possible within the constraints of the current MSFS SDK.

Piers included so far

  • Boscombe - Dorset
Finally, we also have the Boscombe pier in the sim next to Bournemouth, UK
  • Bournemouth - Dorset
The famous pier at Bournemouth beach. Not perfect but it gives you a better orientation when flying over Bournemouth. I also replaced that huge tower at EGHH Bournemouth Airport with a smaller one.
  • Bognor Regis - Sussex
Includes night lighting. Unfortunately, it has some MSFS light orbs that can be seen over the pier at night, these are stock items that unfortunately cannot be excluded with the current state of the SDK.
  • Britannia - Great Yarmouth, Norfolk
Includes night lighting and an animated funfair ride. Part of my UK Piers project. Tested with sim update 7.
  • Burnham - Burnham-on-sea, Somerset
A handcrafted model of the shortest pier in the UK, Burnham Pier. Includes night lighting.
  • Clevedon - Clevedon, Somerset
Includes night lighting and partial terrain re-modeling to make it sit better with the MSFS terrain.
  • Cromer - Norfolk
Cromer Pier stands on the north Norfolk coast, approx 25 miles from Norwich. At the end of the pier, there is the Cromer Lifeboat station ready to serve those in peril out in the North sea. The pier is 151 meters long and was voted National Pier of the Year in 2015. Contains lighting so that you can find it at night too.
  • Deal - Kent
    Includes night lighting.
  • Eastbourne - East Sussex
The pier was partly burnt in 2014 but I have left it intact.
  • Hastings - East Sussex
    A handcrafted model.
  • Paignton - Devon
    Contains night lighting.
  • Penarth - South Glamorgan
Includes night lighting although the night lighting is not as good as I would have liked due to the current SDK not allowing live changes to be seen.
  • Ryde - Isle of Wight
    Includes night lighting.
  • Saltburn - North Yorkshire
A handcrafted model of Saltburn pier and the adjacent funicular railway for MSFS. Includes animations and night lighting. This package will override the pier that exists within the ORBX Great Britain Central addon. Do not rename the folder of this package otherwise, it will not override the ORBX pier.
  • Sandown - Isle of Wight
    Includes night lighting.
  • Southport - Merseyside
Southport Pier, at 1,109 meters long, is the second longest pier in the UK (after Southend Pier) and is unusual in that it extends inland to traverse a lake. Originally built in 1860 it has undergone many changes, like most piers, due to storm damage over the years.
  • Southwold - Suffolk
The pier was built in 1900 for Steamship passengers to embark/disembark from. If you have never visited the current pier it is well worth stopping by if you are in the area as it has the wackiest entertainment in the shape of the "under the pier show". The model contains lighting so that you can find it at night too. This is part of a series of UK piers, so look out for others too!
  • St Annes - Lancashire
St Annes Pier, south of Blackpool, Lancashire, UK. Includes night lighting.
  • Grand Pier - Teignmouth, Devon
Most of the images I found to work with showed the pier in a state of refurbishment so for the time being that is how I have represented it. The end of the pier looks like some decking planks are missing during the works.
  • Walton-on-the-naze - Essex
Walton Pier is 793 meters long and Is the second-longest pier in the UK. It has a large undercover amusement arcade that takes up most of the front portion of the pier. The Walton and Frinton Lifeboat is stationed near the pier head.
  • Grand Pier - Weston Super-Mare, Somerset
    Contains night lighting.
  • Worthing - Sussex
A handcrafted model of Worthing Pier for MSFS.

How to install this mod

MSFS scenery
  1. Extract the downloaded archive

Use 7-Zip (free) or WinRAR to extract the ZIP to a temporary folder. Don't install while still zipped — the simulator can't read inside ZIP files.
  2. Locate your MSFS Community folder

All MSFS add-ons live in the Community folder. Microsoft Store / Game Pass version: %LOCALAPPDATA%\Packages\Microsoft.FlightSimulator_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalCache\Packages\Community\. Steam version: %APPDATA%\Microsoft Flight Simulator\Packages\Community\. Tip: enable Developer Mode in MSFS to see your exact Community folder path.
  3. Copy the scenery package into Community

Drag the extracted scenery folder into your Community folder. Photogrammetry and large mesh packs can be 1GB+ — ensure you have disk space.
  4. Restart MSFS

Close MSFS completely and relaunch. The new content appears in the Content Manager, on the World Map, or in the aircraft/livery selector.
  5. Always read the included readme

Every mod ships with a readme.txt or README file. It tells you exactly where files go, what dependencies are needed, and any quirks specific to this add-on.

Yes a marvelous addition Thank You. Like many others I too hope to see the Blackpool Piers, all within 10 mile of each other and probably the most known piers in the UK?

No .json files included in this download so will not load / install in MSFS.

No Piers there are no .json files in the download so only Piers in the folder and MSFS 2020 will not run this file without???? Not sure how others are getting this to work. Thanks

I would love to see Blackpool's North, Central, and South Piers...and possibly the Big One rollercoaster, on Blackpool Pleasure Beach which at 65m and only 1 mile from Blackpool (Squires Gate) Airport is fitted with warning beacons.

Piers do NOT show despite the fact that they show up in "Content Manager" within the Sim and they are also correctly inserted into the "Community folder"?

Please can you create the 3 piers at Blackpool? They added the tower but not the piers.

As Brian Clark mentioned, Southend Pier is not only the longest pleasure pier but also a great navigation aid to find Southend Airport.

Hi Kevin, I am currently modeling Hastings pier and intend to do others. Perhaps we could collaborate so that we don't overlap?

    Regards Keith.
