Editorial

Although I’ve made it clear on more than one occasion that flying military hardware is something I get no real joy out of because of what role they play in the world situation, I love the F-16.

Preview screenshot

From an engineering point of view they are truly marvellous pieces of hardware, capturing the depth of beauty of what we can do with our advancements in technology in the finest possible manner.

Take away the Havoc and Sidewinder missiles and you can actually really enjoy the immense level of craftsmanship that goes into every one of these models.

With this package, I got to try out the old F-16 in the famous Poker Cards fighter squadron design. This is a bit of an iconic look for aircraft of a certain vintage and with this package, I got to finally try out something of real aviation heritage from the Taiwanese Air Force Squadrons.

So, how did it perform?

The Attention to Detail

This is something that does a truly exceptional job of helping you understand the way that an F-16 SHOULD look. Many models are poor or false imitations but this breaks the bank and really goes all out to capture the real glory of the aircraft itself.

The re-paint of the model is massively impressive and goes a long way to improving the original model and textures by Kirk Olsson. That being said, the fact this is a revamp should no reduce or alter the fact that it looks so incredibly impressive.

I was really intrigued by how they would work the cockpit and the model itself, and with this complete package I was able to see something that was really attentive to reality. Instead of cutting corners or going with generic functions and features, this really does all it can to capture the real look and feel of the original.

Performance

As the F-16 is an aircraft known for its immense power, I was waiting to be stripped back into my seat as I flew around. Whilst other mods have done a rather poor job of helping me see just how the F-16 would and should feel, this captured it in the most pristine circumstances possible.

Not only did it feel really challenging to fly – in a good way – but it was also massively powerful. It gave me a much greater appreciation of the sheer weight behind flying one of these titans in the air. I was immediately blown away by just how different it was to many other aircraft of this style, and the added realism thanks to the textures and the models overall accuracy really made a significant difference here.

Overall, I would happily recommend using this model for any F-16 fans or for people like me who enjoy seeing how authentic certain mods are.
