This repaint adds an eye-catching yellow and blue exterior to the Maule M7 260C Orion, crafted by Daniel Wanvig. It is specifically designed for the default Maule included in Microsoft Flight Simulator X. Sim enthusiasts who enjoy short-takeoff-and-landing (STOL) operations will appreciate this variant’s distinct markings, which stand out amid any virtual backcountry terrain. This package also incorporates a refined interior with a black powder-coated instrument panel and darker cabin textures. You will need the base freeware Maule model from the Fly Away Simulation library to install these textures.

Texture Highlights and Style Integration

The Maule M7 260C is renowned for its robust build and taildragger layout, making it popular for bush flying and challenging airstrip approaches. By pairing the default aircraft’s rugged airframe with a bold yellow and blue hue, Daniel Wanvig offers a practical yet vibrant take on the Orion’s aesthetic. The added black panel coating enhances cockpit immersion, while the darker interior complements the new external paint scheme.

Step-by-Step Installation Process

  1. Locate the Aircraft Folder: Copy the included "texture.55001" directory into your Maule_M7_260C aircraft folder. The default path is typically C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X\SimObjects\Airplanes\Maule_M7_260C.
  2. Edit the aircraft.cfg File: Within the same folder, open the aircraft.cfg file, then add the following entry under the correct [fltsim] sequence:
    [fltsim.xx]
    title=Maule M7 260C Yellow and Blue
    sim=Maule_M7_260C
    model=
    panel=
    sound=

    ui_manufacturer="Maule"
    ui_type="Orion"
    ui_variation="Yellow, blue"
    ui_typerole="Single Engine Prop"
    ui_createdby="Microsoft Corporation"
    description="Maules are rugged and simple. These traits, along with their short-takeoff-or-landing capability, make them popular among bush pilots. The Maule M-7-260C is a taildragger with spring-aluminum landing gear and a wide stance, suitable for taking off from and landing on rough, unprepared surfaces. Its 260-horsepower Lycoming engine provides power to transport up to five people at a relatively fast cruise speed. Ease of handling (with the usual caveats about landing taildraggers in a crosswind) and economical operation round out this plane’s sturdy virtues. The ski option adds to the 260C’s versatility."

  3. Adjust the fltsim Number: In the [fltsim.xx] line, replace xx with the sequential number that follows your existing entries. For example, if the last entry was [fltsim.4], change xx to 5.
  4. Start Up and Enjoy: Once you load Microsoft Flight Simulator X, select the new Maule M7 260C Yellow and Blue variation in your aircraft list. This repaint is now ready for short-field adventures in even the most rugged slots.

Technical Notes for the Enthusiast

This repaint focuses on visual enhancements only, so you will retain the classic Lycoming engine performance found in the base Maule Orion. Its short-takeoff-and-landing capabilities remain intact, making it ideal for rugged or unprepared runways. The blacked-out panel reduces glare in the cockpit view, and the interior’s subtle dark accents further modernize the overall flight deck atmosphere.

Whether you are flying supply runs into remote wilderness strips or simply enjoying the distinctiveness of Maule’s taildragger design, this yellow and blue texture will bring new energy to your adventures. Thanks again to Daniel Wanvig for creating this exceptional livery for the global community of FSX pilots.

Great looking texture. I recommend changing the spec file to that of the default texture.1 otherwise the wingtips look weird.
