This freeware add-on presents a detailed rendition of the RAF Eurofighter 11 Squadron and integrates a complete base model for both Microsoft Flight Simulator X and Microsoft Flight Simulator 2004. It showcases the distinctive canard-delta platform, advanced flight dynamics, and operational capabilities of the Eurofighter Typhoon in a highly immersive environment. Developed by Europe’s key aerospace innovators, the real-world Eurofighter is employed by multiple air forces worldwide, including the United Kingdom’s Royal Air Force. In this package, creator A. Meyer offers an extensive collection of visual models, cockpit instrumentation, custom animations, and numerous repaints, ensuring an accurate portrayal of this iconic modern multirole fighter.
Notable Air Superiority and Multirole Capabilities
The real Eurofighter Typhoon has emerged as a highly maneuverable, twin-engine combat aircraft, equipped for air-to-air interception, ground-attack operations, and even tactical reconnaissance. Its aerodynamic profile, dominated by foreplanes and delta wings, maximizes instantaneous turn rate and sustained agility. A priority on powerful thrust-to-weight ratios, carefree handling, and low drag enhances the craft’s versatility, while stealth elements lower its frontal radar signature. In actual RAF service, 11 Squadron leverages these attributes to maintain defensive readiness and contribute to global mission objectives.
Performance Parameters
- Foreplane/Delta Wing Layout: Offers agile subsonic and supersonic maneuverability.
- High Thrust-to-Weight Ratio: Ensures impressive acceleration and short runway requirements.
- Composite Airframe: Carbon fiber components and titanium reduce weight and enhance durability.
- Supersonic Capabilities: Mach 2.0 maximum speed, with enhanced supercruise options.
- Advanced Stealth Features: Low frontal radar cross section and passive sensor integration.
Physical Characteristics
Measuring roughly 15.96 meters in length and 5.28 meters in height, the aircraft has a wingspan of about 10.95 meters. The empty mass stands near 11,000 kilograms, while maximum takeoff weight can reach 23,500 kilograms, supporting up to 7,500 kilograms of external stores. With robust EJ200 engines delivering approximately 70 kN each (up to 90 kN with afterburners), it sustains +9/-3 g loading.
Powerplant and Safety
The Eurofighter’s twin EJ200 turbofans enhance redundancy and overall safety. These powerplants feature a modular design, reducing maintenance demands. They utilize next-generation military turbofan principles, emphasizing reliable construction and low component counts for balanced operational costs.
Armament and Mission Flexibility
In real combat scenarios, the Eurofighter Typhoon incorporates a 27 mm Mauser BK-27 cannon, complemented by 13 weapon hardpoints. It readily employs various missiles, including AIM-132 ASRAAM or IRIS-T for short-range interception and AIM-120 AMRAAM for beyond-visual-range engagements. The platform also supports anti-ship weaponry, laser-guided bombs, and advanced cruise missiles such as Storm Shadow.
Key Simulation Features
- Single-Pilot and Trainer Models: Includes external payload arrangements like IRIS-T, Meteor, and Paveway bombs.
- Formation Flight Model: Fly alongside two companion Eurofighters for squadron-style maneuvers.
- Custom Dynamics: Reflects the authentic thrust of twin EJ200 engines and canard-delta aerodynamics.
- Multiple Sound Sets: Choose from two dedicated sound packs capturing realistic turbine and cockpit audio.
- 35 Flight Variants: Offers diverse configurations, from standard intercept loadouts to trainer setups.
Additional Visual Enhancements
This add-on includes a functioning tail hook, articulated landing gear, canopy, and radome. Formation lights, strobe lights, and afterburner effects add further immersion. A specialized detail is the MAN lorry hauling the Eurofighter for ground scenarios, increasing realism during base operations.
Available Liveries
- German Air Force (multiple wings, including special anniversary schemes)
- Royal Air Force (3 Sqn, 11 Sqn, 17 Sqn, 29 Sqn)
- Italian Air Force (4° Stormo)
- Spanish Air Force (Ala 11)
- Austrian Air Force (Zeltweg)
- Saudi Arabian scheme
- Several prototype versions
Cockpit Engineering and Displays
The virtual cockpit features three fully functional MFDs (Multi-Function Displays) with about 30 pages for system monitoring. Pilots can configure frequency inputs, transponder codes, autopilot modes, and more via a management keypad. A simulated Defender Aids Sub System (DASS), robust radar suite (“Captor”), and FLIR sensor (“PIRATE”) offer additional realism. Tail hook, refuel hose, gear lever, and canopy commands have corresponding switches, while autopilot, radio, and other functionality are accessed via dedicated console interfaces. This advanced environment replicates genuine mission workflows as closely as simulator constraints allow.
Installation Guidelines
- Unzip the contents to a preferred temporary directory.
- Run the included installer and follow the prompt steps.
- Launch your chosen simulator (Microsoft Flight Simulator X or Microsoft Flight Simulator 2004) and select this Eurofighter from the aircraft menu.
- Ensure DirectX 10 preview is disabled if you are using Microsoft Flight Simulator X, then restart the simulator to finalize settings.
Operational Tips
- Formation flying uses function keys (F5, F6, F7, F8) to select formations.
- Brake parachute deployment is normally triggered after touchdown using the assigned key.
- Refuel hose toggles with the “Ctrl + W” shortcut.
- Boarding steps, radome, and canopy operations can be called up through extended door commands.
Development Credits
