Railroad Tycoon II is a game for the computer. It operates on Mac or Windows. It is a game about trains dating back from the 1700's to early 2000's. It is a first person management game in which you take on the role of a chairman of the railroad company and save the day from robbers and rival companies that try to take your business from you. Build your rail station to be the best in the land.
The game offers 18 different missions divided up throughout the world's countries. All missions have three key objectives and can be played on three different difficulty levels for more game play. When you complete objectives, you earn a medal. One cleared earns a bronze medal, two cleared earns a silver medal, and when all three objectives have been cleared a gold medal is awarded.
You may choose to move on when you fail a mission, so you will never get stuck on that unbeatable mission. Players can also play a map as many times as they please to gain more points. All missions are geologically based, meaning that in a mountainous map you may encounter rock slides or dust storms in a desert map. There is a single mission mode as well.
Players can move through a series of single missions for extra points. Just like in the campaign, missions are geologically based. Players can also create their own maps and play through them with the map edit function. The game also features a stock exchange simulation. Players can buy, sell, and trade stocks just as someone in that time era would. Stocks go up and down and players can over buy and under sell resulting in major debt. The stocks don't have anything to do with a player's company, but experienced players can use stocks to manipulate a company's actions during game play.
