About:
The Malta School of Flying was formed in May 2004, when Patrick Fenech, then a young private pilot, teamed up with Mr. Kenneth Caruana to purchase a Cessna 206. Aware of the limitations in flight training in Malta at the time, when only a basic PPL was available, the school initially provided instruction for pilots who wanted to fly more complex, powerful aircraft. The differences training course was a huge success, and the quality and dedication of the organisation created such a demand that a Cessna 152 basic trainer was introduced in March 2005.
This new aircraft allowed the school to develop its course portfolio to include a full PPL Course and the Night Rating. Mro. Roderick Bugeja was the first student to gain his wings from the Malta School of Flying. With new students arriving in three courses annually, demand for flight instruction was such that a third aircraft, the school’s first Cessna 172, 9H-ACL was added to the fleet in September 2005. The introduction of the 172 offered greater flexibility in operations, especially in cross-country navigational exercises, where the aircraft’s additional payload, range, endurance and seating capacity made it possible for rental pilots and students to share costs and comfortably venture further afield from the Maltese islands.
As the number of students and training sorties increased, a second Cessna 172 (9H-AEX) was acquired in July 2006, giving the Malta School of Flying the largest training fleet in the Maltese Islands. The fleet continued to grow with the acquisition of a second Cessna 152 in July 2009, bringing the school's total fleet to five aircraft.
To date, over 6,000 sorties have been flown, with a faultless safety record. A number of former students are already employed with airlines.
Student confidence and loyalty has been such that in March 2007, the Malta School of Flying entered into a strategic alliance with Bournemouth Commercial Flight Training to offer a full course leading to the Air Transport Pilot’s license and Commercial Pilot’s license. Through this alliance, students at the Malta School of Flying can now pursue further their flying certification through the full range of courses offered by Bournemouth Commercial Flight Training, one of the leading flying schools in the United Kingdom. Constantly aware of the requirements of our students, the Malta School of Flying is preparing for the extension of the range of courses available locally, with the ultimate objective of having students conduct their entire training programme locally, thus saving them time and money. The school prides itself in providing excellent value for money, personalised service and transparent fee structures, with no hidden costs. With an enviable record for student pass rate, flight safety and an excellent base in the heart of the Mediterranean, the Malta School of Flying looks forward to being the leading provider of flight training in the region.
