Enhance your experience around Hilversum Airfield (EHHV) in the Netherlands with this freeware AFCAD-based scenery add-on by its creator, Joost de Wit. It refines taxiways, parking spots, and runway details to match actual operations at this busy general aviation airport. Developed specifically for Microsoft Flight Simulator X, it employs default objects yet stays remarkably true to reality. Below, you will find all important notes and instructions on integrating this package seamlessly into your simulator.

Detailed Layout Using Airport Design Editor

This optimization harnesses the capabilities of Airport Design Editor (ADE). Each runway has been carefully aligned and labeled, reflecting the real-world placement of the three grassy strips found at Hilversum. Positioned near the center of Holland, Hilversum Airfield is known for its general aviation traffic and small aircraft training activities, and it frequently hosts flight clubs throughout the region. Despite using default buildings, the layout remains faithful to the actual airfield’s design, preserving local authenticity and enabling more precise flight patterns.

Radio Frequency Adjustments

In real operations, no tower frequency exists at Hilversum; pilots rely on a simple radio frequency for airport information. However, to enhance interactions in Microsoft Flight Simulator X, a Tower frequency has been added so that virtual pilots receive essential takeoff and landing acknowledgments from simulator-controlled services. This tweak aligns better with the way in-sim communications function.

Key Steps for Installation

  • Copy the two BGL data files into your FSX/Addon Scenery/Scenery directory.
  • Ensure the Addon Scenery folder is enabled in your simulator’s scenery library.

Removing the Files

  • Simply remove the same two BGL files from the FSX/Addon Scenery/Scenery folder to restore default settings.

Compatibility Notes

This scenery add-on is intended for unmodified installations of Microsoft Flight Simulator X. It has also been reported to work with Service Pack 1 (SP1) and may function with Service Pack 2 (SP2). It has not been tested with earlier platforms like Microsoft Flight Simulator 2004 or other simulators, so results in those environments are unknown.

Crafted by Joost de Wit in Holland, this freeware modification brings a more immersive experience to recreational flying around EHHV. Enjoy each approach and departure, knowing the airfield layout reflects the character of the real Hilversum Airfield.
