This freeware AFCAD update focuses on Simon Bolivar International Airport in Venezuela, tailored for Microsoft Flight Simulator X. Created by Ray Smith using the latest Airport Design Editor (ADE), it refines crucial airport elements with modified parking assignments, upgraded vehicle pathways, corrected taxi signage, and support for dual-runway usage. Located in the Maiquetía area, this major Venezuelan hub serves the capital city and experiences diverse terrain, which can affect runway operations.

Key Airport Modifications and Technical Layout

You will find several refinements that enhance realism throughout the airport grounds. These updates include:

  • Additional Parking Coordination: New aircraft stands have been inserted to match gate usage more accurately.
  • Updated Taxi-Signs: Enhanced hold-short markings and signage offer more precise guidance on the ground.
  • Reworked Fuel Trucks: Extra fuel services accommodate greater traffic volume without congestion.
  • Extended Ground Vehicle Routes: Vehicle pathways have been reconstructed to optimize support operations.
  • Tower Viewpoint: Updated control tower perspectives provide an immersive vantage when using Tower view mode.

Runway Configuration Variants

This add-on includes three BGL files that manage different operational scenarios:

SVMI_ADE_RS.BGL
Implements the default runway configuration, reflecting typical airport usage.
SVMI_ADE_CW_RS.BGL
Activates crosswind functionality so that both runways can handle departures and arrivals simultaneously.
SVMI_ADE_OBJ.BGL
Contains necessary objects and infrastructure for these layouts.

While runway 9/27 remains closed for standard landings due to local terrain hazards, it can still serve alternate purposes if needed.

Choosing the Correct File

Decide whether to utilize crosswind runway support or stick to the single operational runway. Both SVMI_ADE_RS.BGL and SVMI_ADE_CW_RS.BGL share the same parking assignments, so pick only one for your Addon Scenery folder at a time to avoid conflicts.

Installation Process

  1. Place SVMI_ADE_RS.BGL or SVMI_ADE_CW_RS.BGL into:
    Flight Simulator X/Addon Scenery/scenery
  2. Move SVMI_ADE_OBJ.BGL into:
    Flight Simulator X/Scenery/Global/scenery
  3. Start Microsoft Flight Simulator X to see the updated airport layout in action.

Important Reminders

  • Keep only one SVMI AFCAD file active in Addon Scenery/scenery to prevent overlapping data.
  • Double-check other AI Traffic Add-Ons for duplicate AFCAD entries, since multiple AFCADs for the same airport can cause unexpected behavior.
  • If you use the crosswind setup, ATIS will announce fictitious runway labels needed for activating non-parallel runways. This is purely a design technique and can be safely ignored.

Removing the Files

  1. Simply delete or remove any SVMI_ BGL files from your directories to revert to the default airport settings.

All content and design are courtesy of Ray Smith, who has carefully fine-tuned this airport for an enhanced flight simulation experience. Enjoy your flying adventures in Venezuela, and take advantage of the refined ground layouts for smoother operations.

Good, much better than the LatainVFR version with so many bugs.
