Experience an updated rendition of Canberra Airport (YSCB), located in Australia's capital city, with an optimized airfield layout designed by Ray Smith. These files introduce additional realism into Microsoft Flight Simulator X through expanded parking positions, accurately placed taxiway signage, and precise runway details for authentic operations. Both crosswind and default runway configurations are supported, making this package ideal for simmers looking to replicate real-world traffic patterns at this important domestic and international gateway.
Refined Airfield Configuration and Runway Details
Canberra Airport sits in a region known for its governmental and cultural significance. In this update, Runway 17/35 has been adjusted to its correct length, and the secondary strip can be enabled as a crosswind runway to handle simultaneous arrivals and departures. Two versions of the airport are included, ensuring that users can choose either a crosswind-enabled operation or the standard runway setup. Each file incorporates revised taxiways, new signage placements, and adjustments to ground service routes to mirror real-world layouts.

Key Modifications and Additions
- Two alternative runway files:
- YSCB_ADE_CW_RS.BGL activates the crosswind runway, allowing simultaneous departures and arrivals on parallel paths.
- YSCB_ADE_RS.BGL follows the standard single-runway operation for a more traditional experience.
- Assigned Parking Upgrades: Enhanced gate and ramp allocations for both commercial and general aviation traffic.
- Corrected Taxiways and Signs: All ground markings and signage have been realigned to match real-world positioning.
- Shifted Control Tower: Tower viewpoint moved to the accurate location, providing a realistic perspective when using the tower view.
- Support Routes: Revised vehicle paths eliminate ground conflicts and streamline servicing operations.
Along with those, you will find additional improvements that optimize aircraft handling and incorporate an expanded operational flow for increased realism.
Installation Procedure
Within this package, four essential BGL files are provided:
- Choose One Runway Operation: Select either YSCB_ADE_CW_RS.BGL (for crosswind use) or YSCB_ADE_RS.BGL (for default operations). Place your chosen file plus YSCB_ADE_CVX.bgl into the “Addon Scenery/scenery” directory of Microsoft Flight Simulator X.
- Global Objects Placement: Move YSCB_ADE_OBJ.BGL into the “Scenery/Global/scenery” folder.
- Check for Conflicts: Ensure that any previously installed airport data for YSCB is removed or overwritten to prevent overlapping structures or parking anomalies.
Afterward, start Microsoft Flight Simulator X to confirm that all updates have taken effect. It is crucial to keep only one YSCB runway configuration file in your scenery folder to avoid improper runway assignments or AI traffic errors.
- Also verify that no third-party AI traffic packages include separate files for Canberra Airport, as this can lead to incorrect behavior.
- When using the crosswind runway version, extra runways may be announced in ATIS. This is normal for crosswind activation and can be safely ignored if you prefer crosswind operations.
Removal
To remove this improvement and return to the stock airport, delete all mentioned BGL files from their respective folders. Microsoft Flight Simulator X will then revert to its default Canberra Airport.
