This freeware package brings you a meticulously designed American Trans Air Boeing 757-300 for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2004, fully optimized for AI operations. It features accurate liveries, multiple levels of detail, and smooth performance, making it well-suited for busy virtual airports and dense traffic environments where frame rates can be an issue.
ATA 757-300 Enhancements & Liveries
Developed by AI Aardvark, this Boeing 757-300 model comes with two distinct liveries that represent American Trans Air’s modern fleet, one of which proudly exhibits the Pleasant Holidays titles on its fuselage. American Trans Air (often referred to as ATA) was known for its charter and scheduled services for several decades, and the 757-300 served various routes under the airline’s banner.
The aircraft’s exterior is rendered with careful attention to detail, incorporating exact shading, specular highlights and realistic paint textures. The package also includes meticulously placed antennas, flap canoes, and simulated gear bays. The model itself was created by Craig Crawley, and the intricate repaint work is courtesy of Daniel DiBacco.

Technical Model Characteristics
The real-world Boeing 757-300 is recognized for its extended fuselage and improved capacity over earlier 757 variants. This AI model demonstrates those proportions faithfully, alongside extensive moving parts such as gear, flaps, and spoilers. Moreover, 16 distinct LOD (Levels of Detail) configurations ensure that as the aircraft appears smaller on your screen, the simulator automatically switches to a simpler 3D model to maintain fluid performance. As a result, even if multiple 757-300s share the same airspace in large numbers, the simulation remains responsive.
AI-Centered Flight Dynamics
Flight Dynamics Engine (FDE) settings for AI traffic often demand a balance between realistic approach behavior and seamless integration into busy traffic patterns. In this release, the aircraft is set to touch down precisely on runway thresholds, allowing quick exits to accommodate following aircraft. Should you require lengthier touchdown float, consider adjusting the cruise lift, parasite drag, and induced drag factors in the aircraft.cfg file. That process can refine the landing experience based on your specific ATC or traffic needs.
Installation Procedure
- Extract the AIA_757_300_ATA folder into the AIRCRAFT directory within your Microsoft Flight Simulator 2004 installation.
- Deploy suitable flight plans to assign the aircraft. This will have AI traffic populating airports with these ATA 757-300s.
- If you are already using any other AI Aardvark 757-300 model referencing aia_757_300_rr.mdl, simply place the provided texture files in the same folder and adjust your aircraft.cfg file accordingly.
Performance Considerations
Since the model employs the LOD technique, it performs especially well in large-scale AI operations. High polygon counts can degrade frame rates when numerous aircraft converge on the same location, but utilizing these simplified LOD variants keeps things running smoothly. This approach makes the add-on particularly useful at busy airports, allowing you to appreciate the detailed fuselage and unique ATA color scheme without sacrificing simulator performance.
This complete freeware base model, bundled here on Fly Away Simulation, ensures that every essential component is included—no additional downloads required. The final look is both faithful to the authentic American Trans Air 757-300 appearance and designed to be frame-rate friendly for AI traffic use.
