This freeware release offers flight simulation enthusiasts an enhanced Douglas DC-10-30 model in classic 1991 Lufthansa livery. SGA’s creators, including Frank Idone, optimized the aircraft’s engineering details, ensuring high realism and smooth integration with Microsoft Flight Simulator 2004.

Key Engineering Refinements

Dynamic Flexing Wings: These wings shift position based on takeoff stress, atmospheric turbulence, and landing forces. Such wing behavior emulates the real DC-10’s structural response, producing an immersive flying experience.

Accurate Flight Dynamics: With input from an actual DC-10 pilot, SGA has refined the performance profile to reflect the unique handling of the real aircraft, including its climb rate, propulsion characteristics, and overall aerodynamics.

Requirements: This mod relies on SGA1030.ZIP as the fundamental package. Ensure this base pack is installed to access all enhanced features.

Lufthansa’s DC-10 Heritage

Known as Germany’s enduring flag carrier, Lufthansa once operated the DC-10, which sported an extended wingspan of approximately ten feet more than earlier variants. The Series 30 famously included a centered main landing gear to accommodate larger payloads. In 1972, the DC-10 family commenced service with several carriers, including Swissair, showcasing its versatile long-haul capabilities. Many airlines also configured certain DC-10s without the lower deck galley, allowing additional freight capacity.

Installation Steps

After unzipping into your flight simulator’s aircraft directory, integrate the following lines into your aircraft.cfg file. Replace X with the correct entry number. For example, if this repaint is your fifth DC-10, use “4” for the next available slot:

description=Model by SGA, Lufthansa repaint by Frank Idone. The Series 30 offered considerably improved payload and range capability with increased fuel capacity and thrust, which necessitated an increase of 10 feet in wingspan and the addition of a center main landing gear assembly. Most popular of all the variants, a total of 206 Series 30s were built, including 27 -30CFs, 4 extended range -30ERs, and 12 pure freighter -30Fs. Unlike the Series 10, most -30s were ordered without the optional lower deck galley to allowed increased cargo capacity. First revenue flight for a Series 30ER was on December 15, 1972 with Swissair. The Series 30CF (Convertible Freighter) was first certified in March 1973 and placed into revenue service in April 1973.

Noteworthy Attributes

SGA’s Douglas DC-10-30 variant highlights the classic Lufthansa name, exhibiting the airline’s trademark color scheme from 1991. By incorporating real-world pilot feedback, the aircraft aligns with authentic performance metrics, ensuring users experience flight conditions connected to actual commercial operations. Its additional center gear and enhanced capacities echo McDonnell Douglas’s push for expanded range and payload flexibility, making it one of the most produced DC-10 variants.
