This freeware release highlights a meticulously enhanced Alitalia Douglase DC-10-30, brought to you by SGA and repainted by Frank Idone. It incorporates advanced wing-flex technology and input from a real DC-10 pilot to produce realistic flight performance in FS2004, capturing the spirit of a classic tri-engine airliner while maintaining authenticity in every detail.
Upgraded Aerodynamics and Wing Flex
Through SGA’s newly compiled model, you can experience Dynamic Flexing Wings (a feature that alters wing position in real time). They flex naturally during takeoff, shift subtly in turbulence, and respond visibly to hard landings, all based on the flight phase and atmospheric variables.
Additionally, the flight dynamics received fine-tuning with the expertise of an actual DC-10 professional. This ensures a more faithful emulation of the aircraft’s weight, thrust characteristics, and handling beyond previous releases. With this improvement, you can expect a closer match to how the DC-10-30 truly behaves under various load and weather conditions.

Notable Design Attributes
As a wide-body airliner introduced by McDonnell Douglas in the early 1970s, the real DC-10-30 variant is particularly recognized for its extended wingspan and additional fuel capacity compared to earlier series. There is also a center main landing gear assembly that supports heavier loads and facilitates longer journeys, which made the -30 designation the most popular among all DC-10 versions.
Alitalia, the former flag carrier of Italy, chose this tri-jet for its global routes, emphasizing both passenger service and operational efficiency. In many cases, airlines utilizing the -30 configured it without a lower deck galley, focusing more on cargo tonnage in an era of increasing freight demands. Swissair famously inaugurated the -30ER in December 1972, and subsequent convertible freighter configurations (-30CF) appeared by March 1973, reflecting the model’s adaptability to various market needs.
Essential Installation Steps
Before installing, make sure you have the prerequisite base pack SGA1030.ZIP. Extract the new files straight into the Aircraft folder of FS2004. Then, open the aircraft configuration file (aircraft.cfg) for your DC-10 series and add a new section. Adjust the “fltsim.X” line to match the sequence in your simulator, noting that the numbering starts at zero. For instance, if you already have four existing entries, label this one as five. Insert the following block:

The Series 30 offered improved payload and range,
featuring an extra 10 feet in wingspan plus a center
main landing gear assembly. A total of 206 were built,
including 27 -30CFs, 4 -30ERs, and 12 -30Fs. Many -30s
were ordered without the optional lower deck galley
to enhance cargo capability. The first -30ER revenue
flight took place on December 15, 1972 with Swissair.
The -30CF was certified in March 1973 for mixed passenger
and freight operations.
