This freeware package introduces a custom fictional repaint of a payware Alpha Simulations C-7 Caribou designed for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2004. Created by Sean Doran, it adds distinctive exterior markings while preserving the underlying payware model’s authentic shape and functionality. Enthusiasts who want to operate this repaint must already own the payware version of the aircraft, which can be obtained through a source such as our payware store, SimShack. This download includes only the repaint files.
Highlighted Texture Features
The fictional design is tailored to complement the C-7’s robust silhouette, known for its short takeoff and landing (STOL) capabilities. DeHavilland’s original airframe was prized for its cargo-hauling versatility and ability to reach remote airfields with minimal runway lengths. This repaint pays tribute to that history by featuring unique markings and subtle detail elements that emphasize the Caribou’s storied operational background.
Origin of the Base Aircraft
The C-7 Caribou, also identified as the DHC-4, originated with DeHavilland Aircraft of Canada. Its powerful radial engines (in some variants) or turboprop engines (in others) and spacious cabin allowed the transportation of heavy loads or personnel into constrained environments. Its inverted gull wing, combined with high-lift devices, made the aircraft exceptionally adept at low-speed handling and effortless short-field performance. Production continued into the early 1970s, with many aircraft still active long after their initial military deployments.

The DHC-4 Caribou was developed by De Havilland Aircraft of Canada, Ltd. in a joint effort with the Canadian Department of Defense. The prototype first flew in July, 1958. This tactical transport made the most of a capacious fuselage with a high, inverted gull wing and large upswept tail, which allowed steep angles of departure for its planned role as a STOL transport. Designed for flying into forward battle zones where short, unimproved airstrips mandated the ability to take off and land in very short distances, the Caribou could carry various loads, including 26 fully-equipped paratroops, 32 fully-equipped ground troops, 22 stretchers with wounded, or nearly 9,000 pounds of cargo, including vehicles. Caribou production ceased in 1973, with 307 aircraft built. A good number of these are still in operation today.
