FSX High Resolution Moon

High-resolution Moon texture replacements sharpen night skies with crisp lunar detail, upgrading the default 64x64 bitmaps to 512x512 images and a cleaner alpha channel for smoother edges and richer contrast. Designed for FSX, it refreshes the simulator’s stock look without changing scenery, weather, or performance settings.

Flight Simulator X Prepar3D

These are higher resolution images for the default moon textures. The default moons are 64X64 BMPs. I've replaced them with 512X512 BMPs, and replaced the Alpha channel with higher resolution images. By Roy Altholz.

Create a backup folder for the original moonX.bmp's found in the FSX "Texture" folder,, cut or copy the original moon bmps into the backup folder, then keep the folder in a safe place,
Copy the contents of the downloaded "Textures" folder into the FSX "Texture" folder. If you "copied" the original moon textures to the backup folder, you will be asked if you want to overwrite, say "yes".

FSX / P3D add-on

Extract the downloaded archive

Use 7-Zip (free) or WinRAR to extract the ZIP to a temporary folder. Don't install while still zipped — the simulator can't read inside ZIP files.

Most FSX add-ons go into one of: SimObjects\Airplanes\, Addon Scenery\, Effects\, or Gauges\.
