Explore two historically inspired texture sets for Microsoft Flight Simulator X that showcase Transavia’s initial steps in air charter operations using the classic Douglas DC-6. Created by Jens B. Kristensen and repainted by Maarten Brouwer, these liveries depict both the 1966 and 1968 era color schemes on two different airframes. Although Transavia faced serious competition from established carriers in the 1960s, the Dutch airline built a powerful presence and remains influential today under Air France-KLM. Please note that these free repaints require the freeware JBK DC-6 base model, which you can locate in the Fly Away Simulation library.

Transavia’s Shift to Vintage Propliners

In late 1966, Transavia Holland inaugurated charter flights with two DC-6 variants and a single DC-6B. These four-engine, pressurized propliners (developed originally in the late 1940s) offered robust performance and extended range capabilities, which suited Transavia’s evolving business model. At the time, KLM and Martinair Holland were already established in the regional charter market, yet Transavia managed to stake its own claim by bringing additional DC-6B units into the fleet.

Historic Liveries in Focus

The liveries presented here represent two specific aircraft:

PH-TRA (1966 Livery)
This DC-6, named “T-Bird Maastricht,” entered service after an initial storage period and included an interior redesign featuring approximately 80 passenger seats. It also operated humanitarian flights between São Tomé and Uli in Biafra before being sold to another carrier in 1969.
PH-TRB (1968 Livery)
Nicknamed “T-Bird Beek,” this airframe performed vital relief missions for Nordchurchaid under lease agreements. After several months of extensive work in Biafra, it was finally transferred to a different operator and later retired from service.

Installation Steps for the Transavia Textures

  • Verify that the JBK DC-6 base model is installed on your system.
  • Open your “JBK DC6 late” folder and place the texture.transavia_1966 and texture.transavia_1968 directories inside.
  • Access your aircraft.cfg file in the same folder. Locate previous [fltsim.x] entries and then paste the following excerpts, ensuring you replace “x” with the next sequential number.
