Flight Simulator X Prepar3D

This freeware release features a meticulously detailed Boeing 737-800, originally sporting Transavia Airlines colors before its transition into the Jet2 fleet under registration G-GDFC. Developed by Project Open Sky and painted by Mathieu Vos (APSS), it integrates smoothly with Microsoft Flight Simulator X and offers an immersive experience that highlights precision flight modeling, fully animated components, and a range of authentic visual elements.

Transavia Heritage and Jet2 Transition

The real-world aircraft was previously operated by Transavia Airlines, a Dutch carrier known for its low-cost services across Europe. Later, it underwent a full livery change to Jet2 markings. Enthusiasts will appreciate this repaint for capturing the fleeting moment when the airframe still wore remnants of Transavia’s branding while preparing to serve under its new owner.

Key Technical Highlights

  • Authentic Flight Dynamics: The flight model benefits from real-world operational data to replicate handling, weight distribution, and engine performance.
  • Animated Control Surfaces: Ailerons, elevators, rudder, and spoilers respond fluidly to pilot inputs for accurate maneuvering.
  • Independent Suspension: Fully articulated landing gear, complete with tilt and steering animations, ensures a lifelike ground roll.
  • Wing Flex Simulation: The wings flex and react to aerodynamic forces, providing a visually immersive external view.
  • Opening Passenger and Cargo Doors: Use intuitive commands (Shift + E for passenger entry) to access cabin entries, enhancing ground operations.
  • Reflective Textures: Surface materials deliver realistic lighting effects, incorporating variable shine across fuselage sections.
  • Illuminated Flight Deck: Enjoy clear night-time operations thanks to detailed external illumination and virtual cockpit window reflections (often referred to as thingypit windows).
  • Crew and Pilot Testing: Real-world pilot insights and Project Open Sky expertise have influenced intricate details of the flight envelope and performance.

Behind the Scenes

Project Open Sky crafted the aircraft model with close attention to technical realism, from rolling wheels to thrust reverser mechanics. Mathieu Vos (APSS) provided the high-resolution paintwork, ensuring authentic markings for Transavia Airlines alongside the emerging Jet2 identity.

Realistic Boeing 737-800 Foundations

The 737-800 is prized for its efficient operation, seating capacities typically near 189 passengers, and reliable CFM56 engines. Transavia Airlines leverages this aircraft for regional and holiday routes. Commemorating that operational background, this mod emphasizes mid-range performance, realistic flight handling, and practical airline configurations, ensuring a balanced simulation experience for both short hops and extended journeys.

All of these elements combine to offer a highly polished Boeing 737-800 package. It respects the legacy of Transavia Airlines, acknowledges Jet2’s eventual rebranding, and delivers a realistic experience for virtual pilots who value detailed systems, accurate flight behavior, and visual authenticity. This freeware add-on stands ready to elevate any virtual airline operation in Microsoft Flight Simulator X.

How to install this mod

FSX / P3D aircraft
  1. Extract the downloaded archive

Use 7-Zip (free) or WinRAR to extract the ZIP to a temporary folder. Don't install while still zipped — the simulator can't read inside ZIP files.
  2. Copy aircraft files into SimObjects

Place the aircraft folder inside FSX\SimObjects\Airplanes\. The folder must contain an aircraft.cfg file. Effects go into FSX\Effects\; gauges go into FSX\Gauges\.
  3. Verify in FSX

Launch FSX, go to Free Flight → Select Aircraft and find your new aircraft under its manufacturer.
  4. Always read the included readme

Every mod ships with a readme.txt or README file. It tells you exactly where files go, what dependencies are needed, and any quirks specific to this add-on.
