This freeware repaint brings the Globe Air registration HB-IEL to the Rob Richardson Airspeed Ambassador Mk2 within Microsoft Flight Simulator X. Originally delivered in 1950 to a British carrier, this aircraft was eventually operated by Globe Air of Switzerland and now, through this texture set by Peter Watkins, provides a classic regional airliner look for those who appreciate historical detail. The base model needed for these textures is available in the Fly Away Simulation library.

Rob Richardson’s Classic Airspeed Ambassador Mk2

Airspeed Ambassador Mk2 was a post-war British twin-prop designed for short- to medium-range routes. It featured pressurized cabins along with radial engines intended to deliver dependable performance. Rob Richardson’s model incorporates realistic flight characteristics, cockpit layouts, and authentic engine sounds suitable for those seeking a vintage aviation experience.

Historical Reference and Unique Registration

The repaint depicts HB-IEL, which carried construction number 5222. Initially, this airframe flew British European Airways service under the registration G-ALZZ and was once known as “Edmund Spenser.” Later, it became part of Globe Air’s operations in May 1961. Eventually, it found its way to Autair, where it remained until retirement in 1969. The Swiss registration and distinctive markings are accurately reproduced in this repaint.

Authentic Texture Details

Peter Watkins has meticulously fashioned the liveries to honor the real-world operator’s paint scheme, integrating subtle weathering and precise logo placement. These textures capture the era’s visual style while maintaining the unusual Swiss branding that set Globe Air apart.
