Editorial
Having used the Pelican Dropshop on one too many (Failed) missions over the year in Halo, as soon as I seen this mod to download I just knew that I had to have some fun with it! The Pelican is one of those iconic pieces of video gaming history that I just had to have a bit of engagement with so when I was alerted to this mod I knew what my next download was going to be!
This made a huge difference to me and ensured that I could quickly and easily enjoy flying a unique take on a bit of gaming history. How does it compare, though, to the real thing?
The Detail
The design is spot on, with excellent minor features included to ensure that it handles all of the new changes and impressions very well. Not only does it handle things like the textures and unique shape of the dropship without any problems but it uses awesome lighting effects to make it easy to see where you are/should be going at any one time.
Another major factor of this new range of detail is that this comes with in-panel radars and static VCs so you have a level of functionality to match with the level of cool provided by the model itself.
The Performance
It flies as you would expect – perfectly. It’s got the same ease of control as the real thing and with extreme G loads and dynamic pressures it still manages to retain its cool. This ultra-efficient and high thrust system makes it very easy to control even if you are not used to this kind of aircraft. Best of all, the level of performance has been made to match this level of depth technologically – this will feel nothing like the normal aircraft that you are used to using in FSX.
As a recreation of a piece of old-world technology, this makes such an incredible difference to helping you enjoy something which is fresh and exciting. The high thrust and deflection flaps make such a major difference to helping you enjoy this properly – it’s all the little things that make the great level of performance that this provides you with so important.
It might not be your average piece of aviation hardware but I can guarantee that it feels about as close to the real Pelican as you are likely to get in FSX!
