Classic Airliner Details and Historical Context

The 707-320C variant provided extended range and cargo capacity for many carriers around the world. Western Airlines, known in its era for comfortable service, employed this aircraft type to expand long-haul routes. Enthusiasts who admire mid-century aviation will appreciate the vintage flight deck design and the subtleties of engine performance that defined the jetset era.

Flight Model and Visual Enhancements

The core model originates with Vista Liners, who designed it for a 32-bit environment and DirectX 9-level rendering. It has since been adapted for Microsoft Flight Simulator X, ensuring compatibility with most standard installations. This release incorporates A2A 3D Lights & Redux codes for realistic illumination, alongside a refined texture and paint kit by David Grindele / FS Lightman. These features enhance the classic fuselage lines while maintaining historical accuracy.

Tips for Operating a Converted Aircraft

Because this model was originally developed for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2004, it relies on C++ components tailored to DirectX 9c. Therefore, operators should:

  • Disable DirectX 10 preview in the simulator’s graphics settings.
  • Use a screen resolution of 1024 × 768 to prevent display anomalies.
  • Confirm that Light Bloom and other resource-intensive effects (especially in FSX Acceleration) are switched off to avoid unwanted artifacts such as a blacked-out panel or missing textures.

Settings for FSX Acceleration Users

For those running FSX Acceleration, it is crucial to ensure that both the Light Bloom effect and DirectX 10 preview are unchecked. Doing so helps eliminate visual inconsistencies like a distorted fuselage or unresponsive cockpit displays. Adjusting those settings generally resolves the majority of issues encountered with converted aircraft.

How to install this mod

FSX / P3D aircraft
  1. Extract the downloaded archive

Use 7-Zip (free) or WinRAR to extract the ZIP to a temporary folder. Don't install while still zipped — the simulator can't read inside ZIP files.
  2. Copy aircraft files into SimObjects

Place the aircraft folder inside FSX\SimObjects\Airplanes\. The folder must contain an aircraft.cfg file. Effects go into FSX\Effects\; gauges go into FSX\Gauges\.
  3. Verify in FSX

Launch FSX, go to Free Flight → Select Aircraft and find your new aircraft under its manufacturer.
  4. Always read the included readme

Every mod ships with a readme.txt or README file. It tells you exactly where files go, what dependencies are needed, and any quirks specific to this add-on.
