This update provides revised fictional repaints for the United States Navy’s VFA-195 “Dambusters” squadron, tailored specifically for the Lockheed Martin F-35C within Microsoft Flight Simulator X. Created by S. Peterson, these enhanced textures introduce distinct Bureau Numbers (BuNos) for each aircraft, as well as a newly added CAG variant. The modification is freeware and does not include the necessary base model by Dino Cattaneo, so users must acquire the freeware F-35C (F35V230.ZIP) package from the Fly Away Simulation library before installation.

Refined Carrier-Based Livery Updates

VFA-195 “Dambusters” is a renowned United States Navy strike fighter squadron that has operated numerous carrier-capable aircraft over the years. These updated textures envision a future scenario in which the squadron adopts the F-35C Lightning II, highlighting each aircraft with unique BuNos. By featuring multiple liveries that reflect realistic markings, flight simulation enthusiasts can immerse themselves in a potential next-generation Navy air wing environment.

Key Modifications and Notable Details

  • Distinct Aircraft Serial Assignments: Each texture folder now has an individual BuNo, preventing duplication across the fleet.
  • Brand-New CAG Texture: A commanding officer’s aircraft (CAG) scheme to expand the available repaint options.
  • Accurate Squadron Insignia and Callsigns: Each repaint includes customized insignia, such as the “CHIPPY” airline call.

F-35C: A Brief Technical Note

The F-35C Lightning II is a dedicated carrier-based variant of Lockheed Martin’s advanced fifth-generation multirole fighter. It incorporates a larger wingspan, reinforced landing gear, and necessary structural enhancements for carrier operations. This version leverages cutting-edge stealth technology and sensor fusion to perform power projection, fleet defense, and precision strike missions in numerous operational scenarios. The real-world platform grew out of the Joint Strike Fighter (JSF) program, reflecting contributions from multiple industry partners such as Northrop Grumman and BAE Systems.

Installation Procedures

  1. Copy the texture folders from this package and place them into the “F-35C” folder within “SimObjects/Airplanes.”
  2. Open your aircraft.cfg file, then add the provided [fltsim.x] entries, making sure to update “x” to the next sequential number.

Below is an example that can be repeated for each included repaint. Please remember to adjust only the fltsim.x numbering:

Apply the same structure for each of the following repaints to match their corresponding texture folders, ensuring the title and texture entries bear the correct aircraft numbers (NF-201, NF-202, NF-203, NF-204).
