This complete freeware package features a Dominican Airways Boeing 737-500 creation by Orlandy Perez with custom cockpit arrangements by Pablo Contouris. It incorporates a modified flight model adapted from the renowned B737-200 by FFX, and it includes integrated panel elements for reliable performance in Microsoft Flight Simulator X and Microsoft Flight Simulator 2004. Designers such as Bob Scott of Tinmouse II, Ken Mitchell, SPanel, and collaborators at FS2X.com contributed gauges and panel portions, ensuring an authentic short-to-medium range jetliner experience.
Dominican Operational History and Livery
The Dominican Airways Boeing 737-500, originating from a classic variant of the 737 family, reflects the vibrant spirit of a Dominican Republic-based carrier. The airline historically sought a reliable single-aisle model to serve regional routes, thus the 737-500 became a suitable choice, offering commendable economics and robust operational features. In this freeware rendition, the exterior paint design exhibits distinctive logos while maintaining realistic proportions reflective of Dominican Airways branding.
Panel Layout and Cockpit Instrumentation
The included panel, meticulously assembled by Pablo Contouris, draws on real Boeing 737 series layouts with expanded gauges for improved clarity. An adapted overhead from the default 737-800 is utilized, as it shares functional similarities with the 737-500’s overhead layout. Essential instruments leverage FSX and FS2004 standard components, augmented by approved third-party gauges from sources such as Tinmouse II and Ken Mitchell. Ensure you have the correct arrangement of files for full overhead functionality.
Sound and Panel Notes for FS2004 Users
Flight Simulator 2004 pilots may need to copy a suitable 737 panel folder and sound package from another aircraft. By replacing the placeholders provided, you can preserve realistic engine sounds and panel behaviors tailored to the 737-500. Pay special attention to overwriting or merging the panel and sound folders so they function accurately within FS2004’s architecture.
Deploying the Add-On Files
- Base Location: Place the aircraft folder in the “Airplanes” directory for FSX or in the “Aircraft” directory for FS2004. For instance:
- FSX: Program Files ? Microsoft Games ? Microsoft Flight Simulator X ? SimObjects ? Airplanes
- FS2004: Program Files ? Microsoft Games ? Microsoft Flight Simulator 2004 ? Aircraft
- File Copy Requirements (FS2004): Replace or merge any existing panel and sound directories with a compatible panel and sound set from a similar Boeing series if necessary.
Ensuring Proper Configuration
Within the Aircraft.cfg
, verify or insert the following entries to activate the hydraulics, deicing, and instrument capabilities:
- [hydraulic_system]
- electric_pumps=1
- [deice_system]
- structural_deice_type=1
- [airspeed_indicators]
- airspeed_indicator.0=1
airspeed_indicator.1=1 - [fuel]
- electric_pump=1
- [Radios]
- Audio.1 = 1
Com.1 = 1, 1
Com.2 = 1, 1
Nav.1 = 1, 1, 1
Nav.2 = 1, 1, 0
Adf.1 = 1
Transponder.1 = 1
Marker.1 = 1 - [Flaps.0]
- flaps-position.0=0.000
flaps-position.1=1.000
flaps-position.2=2.000
flaps-position.3=5.000
flaps-position.4=10.000
flaps-position.5=15.000
flaps-position.6=25.000
flaps-position.7=30.000
flaps-position.8=40.000
These entries are critical to illuminate your overhead panel properly, indicate speed correctly, and link the radio stack seamlessly.
Selectable GPS Integration
Within the “Panel” folder, you will find three configuration files: panel_Garmin430.cfg
, panel_Garmin500.cfg
, and panel.cfg
. By default, panel.cfg
references the Garmin 430. To switch to the standard Garmin 500, overwrite panel.cfg
with the contents of panel_Garmin500.cfg
. If you wish to revert, overwrite it with panel_Garmin430.cfg
.
Supplementary Reference Material
For in-depth operation of the included Garmin 430, a dedicated manual is provided in the add-on’s documentation folder. You will also discover a B737-200-centered checklist in Word and HTML formats. To integrate the checklist directly into FSX or FS2004, place the relevant file in the aircraft folder, then add the following line under the appropriate [fltsim.X] section in Aircraft.cfg
:
