This repaint package introduces the Messerschmitt Bf 108 Taifun registration “OE-DAG,” conceived by Bernhard Lechner for use with the payware Classics Hangar (Mathias Pommerien) rendition of this iconic single-engine design. Although the Austrian markings from 1958 are purely hypothetical, they have been developed to authentically reflect an era-appropriate aesthetic.

Key Insights on the Messerschmitt Bf 108

The Messerschmitt Bf 108, known as the Taifun (German for “Typhoon”), emerged in the 1930s as a sleek sports and liaison aircraft. Its low-wing, all-metal monoplane construction provided both agility in the air and reliability on shorter airfields. Originally produced in Germany, it later caught widespread attention for its pioneering aerodynamics. In this repaint, the fictional OE-DAG offers an Austrian twist, envisioning what might have existed in 1958.

Developed for Microsoft Flight Simulator X

This livery is tailored for Microsoft Flight Simulator X and requires the Classics Hangar payware Bf 108 model by Mathias Pommerien. Only the texture files are provided here; the base model must be obtained separately from a retail platform, such as SimShack, to ensure all cockpit, aerodynamic, and performance configurations are represented correctly in the simulator.

Fictional Austrian Scheme

Although no real Bf 108 carried the OE-DAG registration historically, the paint scheme aligns with plausible color themes from the late 1950s in Austria. The fuselage marks and identification lettering were positioned to conform with civil aviation tendencies of that time, delivering a historically informed interpretation.

Repaint Details

This fictional livery was meticulously rendered using the original paintkit included with Classics Hangar’s Bf 108 release. Every panel, rivet detail, and subtle shading was adjusted to fit the envisioned Austrian designation. Realistic wear and tear have also been carefully added, reflecting how an active aircraft might appear after hours of operation.

Texture Integration Process

  1. Unzip the downloaded file to a convenient location.
  2. Copy the texture.OE-DAG folder and place it into the SIMOBJECTS/AIRPLANES/Classics_Hangar_Bf108B_IFR directory within your Microsoft Flight Simulator X installation.
  3. Open the aircraft.cfg file in that same aircraft folder. Locate the existing [fltsim.X] entries and add the new section below them, updating the “XX” in [fltsim.XX] to the next sequential number. You can paste the following snippet:
[fltsim.XX]
title = Messerschmitt Bf 108 OE-DAG
sim = CH_Bf108B
model =
