This repaint depicts the LAPE Douglas DC-2 carrying registration EC-AAY and has been meticulously crafted by Tim Scharnhop. It replicates the classic DC-2 configured for use by L.A.P.E. (Líneas Aéreas Postales Españolas) during the mid-1930s. Although this download does not include the original commercial model, you can apply this repaint to the payware DC-2 product offered by the “Uiver Team X.” In addition, proceeds from their DC-2 package support the Aviodrome aviation museum in the Netherlands. This add-on is designed for FSX, formally known as Microsoft Flight Simulator X.

Historical Notes on the DC-2 and Its Spanish Service

The Douglas DC-2 was a pioneering twin-engine airliner that predated and heavily influenced the renowned DC-3. In Spain, EC-AAY was operated by L.A.P.E., serving important routes under the Spanish Republican government. This particular unit, also identified by its manufacturer’s serial number (MSN) 1334, was delivered in May 1935. Today, enthusiasts can appreciate this historically significant aircraft virtually, thanks to the dedicated attention given to its livery and flight realism.

Important Preparations

This repaint is intended for the payware Uiver Team X Douglas DC-2 model, which you must already have installed. A standard installation directory is assumed. The DC-2 package’s latest update (dated 12/31/2010) is strongly recommended since it introduces multiple enhancements for improved realism and compatibility within the simulator.

Steps to Install the Repaint

  1. Extract the Contents: Unzip the file named dc2X_lape.ZIP into a temporary folder. Make sure folder structures remain intact during extraction.
  2. Move the Texture: Copy or move the folder texture.lape into your Microsoft Flight Simulator X\SimObjects\Airplanes\Douglas_DC2_X directory.
  3. Update Recommendation: If you have already installed the final version of the DC-2 package, then you can ignore extra updates. Otherwise, it is advisable to apply the latest iteration before proceeding.
  4. Aircraft.cfg Modification: Using a text editor of your choice, open the aircraft.cfg file. Scroll to the last [flightsim.XX] section and insert the block of text shown below, ensuring you increment the XX in [flightsim.XX] to the next index number.

This update is provided free of charge, yet it does rely on the payware model from the Uiver Team X. All thanks go to Tim Scharnhop and the entire development group who have ensured that the vintage DC-2 remains alive in modern flight simulation environments.
