This freeware package delivers a specialized Yamal Airlines exterior scheme for the SCDS Yakovlev Yak-40 v1.3 in Microsoft Flight Simulator 2004, presenting a regional operation style seen in Arctic Russia. It is designed to integrate seamlessly with the existing aircraft package, making it straightforward for virtual pilots to expand their Yak-40 collection in a realistic manner.

Overview of the Yak-40 and Yamal Airlines

The Yakovlev Yak-40 is a short-range, three-engined passenger jet originally produced in the Soviet era. Its sturdy construction and ability to operate from relatively short and unprepared runways make it well-suited for services to remote regions. Yamal Airlines, based in the Arctic territory of Russia, employs such aircraft types for their adaptability to challenging weather and terrain. This color scheme reflects a genuine representation of Yamal’s operational branding.

Add-on Specifics

Developed by SCDS, the Yak-40 v1.3 classic passenger model provides a functional base for this new design. The creators behind this package include livery designer Maxim Mysin and special contributor Zbynek Pavlon, who provided refined rivet detailing for all SCDS-based repaints. Ensure that you have the core SCDS Yak-40 v1.3 (file named “SCDSYK40.ZIP”) before installing, as this release is not compatible with the Yak-40K v1.2RC version.

Installation Procedure

  • Run the provided .exe installer.
  • Direct the installer to the main FS2004 directory (often called the simulator’s root folder).
  • Once complete, start FS2004 and locate the newly added entry in the aircraft selection menu.

If you have applied any patches or updates for the SCDS Yak-40 v1.3 that cause the repaint to disappear, rerun this installer to restore the textures. The process will quickly replace any missing files.

Technical Notes

This content is tightly integrated with the Yak-40’s structural features. By leveraging the riveted surface details and maintaining accurate fuselage lines, the repaint properly aligns with the model geometry. It also ensures that the tail and engine nacelle markings correspond with real-world references from Yamal’s fleet. No flight dynamics modifications are included, so the aircraft performance remains consistent with the original SCDS package.

Credit, once again, to Maxim Mysin for producing this livery and Zbynek Pavlon for refining the rivet textures. This contribution brings an authentic Arctic operational theme to the SCDS Yak-40 v1.3, expanding the range of liveries suitable for short-field flights in colder climates.
