This highly detailed repaint showcases the iconic tri-motor aircraft operated by Lufthansa during the 1936 Berlin Olympics era, bringing a historical touch to Microsoft Flight Simulator 2004. Painstakingly produced by Carsten Pedersen, this add-on integrates blank texture work authored by Heather Sherman and uses the original freeware base model designed by Pierino Primavesi. Enthusiasts can expect accurate engine specifications and period-specific markings, with an optional no swastika variant available for those seeking an alternative livery.

Authentic 1930s Heritage and Design

The Junkers Ju-52/3m served Lufthansa faithfully in the 1930s, coupling distinctive corrugated metal lines with three BMW 132A-3 radial engines. Each engine delivers around 660 horsepower, which enabled an operational range of nearly 1000 km at a cruising altitude of 4500 m. This aircraft emerged as a reliable workhorse for passenger and cargo routes, well-suited for the European skies of its time. The repaint’s realism accentuates the riveted body panels from nose to tail, honoring the unique style that defined the original Ju-52/3m.

Seamless Integration and Visual Refinements

To maintain historical fidelity, creators Carsten Pedersen and Heather Sherman meticulously captured the authentic liveries and details. Subtle shading, weathered surfaces, and crisp Lufthansa branding set this version apart from generic paints. In addition, the 1936 Olympic markings underscore the aircraft’s place in Germany’s aviation timeline. For simmers who prefer a historically sensitive option, JU52ALNS.ZIP provides a version without the swastika emblem.

Required Files and Key Installation Points

This repaint depends on the freeware base package located in the Fly Away Simulation mod library. You must first download either JU52V0.ZIP or JU52BLNK.ZIP before adding these textures:

  • Place all unzipped files into the appropriate Ju52_V60 folder.
  • Ensure the “Use Folder Names” option remains selected to retain correct file paths.
  • Insert a new fltsim section in aircraft.cfg, using the sample below with a consecutive numerical index.

Operational Tips

After completing the installation and configuration steps, load up Microsoft Flight Simulator 2004, locate the newly installed tri-engine in your aircraft menu, and prepare for a retro flight experience. The historical paint scheme delivers a suitably classic ambiance, especially when flying mid-level routes reminiscent of interwar European travel.
