Immerse yourself in a historical aviation era with this detailed TWA Douglas DC-2 (NC13711) repaint package, designed especially for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2004. Drawing on textures originally created by Gerard Kranenbarg and Jan Visser, this repaint by Tim Scharnhop pays tribute to the Trans World Airlines (TWA) heritage and the authentic Douglas DC-2 that currently resides at the Museum of Flight in Seattle, Washington. It does not include the base aircraft but requires the freeware DC-2 model, which can be sourced from the same library.
TWA Douglas DC-2 (NC13711) Livery Highlights
The Douglas DC-2, introduced in the mid-1930s, was a groundbreaking twin-engine transport aircraft that paved the way for later designs. TWA employed the DC-2 for reliable passenger service and exemplified early commercial aviation standards. This rendition meticulously captures the exterior lines, original markings, and the distinctive TWA paint scheme. The creators—Gerard Kranenbarg, Jan Visser, and Tim Scharnhop—have dedicated close attention to panel details, rivet patterns, and airline-specific accents.

Required Base Package
This repaint requires the separately released freeware Douglas DC-2 base package. Ensure that the base model is installed in your simulator’s Aircraft (for FS2004) or SimObjects\Airplanes (for FSX) folder. This repaint assumes a standard installation path.
Installation Steps
- Extract dc2_twa.ZIP to a temporary directory, making sure that all folder structures remain intact.
- Locate and copy the new texture.twa folder and the Panel.2 folder into the existing Douglas DC2 folder found within your Flight Simulator 9\AIRCRAFT or Microsoft Flight Simulator X\SimObjects\Airplanes directory, depending on your platform.
- Access aircraft.cfg with a text editor. Under the most recent
[fltsim.X]
section, append the entry below. Be sure to update theXX
index so it follows consecutively after any existing entries.

- Save the aircraft.cfg file, then launch your simulator. The new TWA Douglas DC-2 option should now appear in the aircraft menu.
Technical Notes
This livery highlights authentic TWA branding from back when Trans World Airlines utilized the DC-2 as part of their early fleet. The Douglas DC-2’s shorter wingspan and characteristic fuselage profile distinguish it from its successors, and the classic flight deck leans heavily on analog instrumentation. The included Panel.2 configuration refines cockpit realism, enhancing immersion for historical routes or vintage flight operations.
Credit and Acknowledgments
Full credit goes to Gerard Kranenbarg and Jan Visser for the original base textures, with Tim Scharnhop providing the TWA repaint adaptation. Their painstaking work ensures the subtle details of the era are preserved. Please enjoy flying this piece of aviation heritage in Microsoft Flight Simulator 2004 (FS2004) or FSX.
