This repaint celebrates the famed Douglas Historical Foundation’s marking scheme applied to a classic DC-2, specifically built for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2004 (FS9) and also adaptable for Microsoft Flight Simulator X. It is authored by Tim Scharnhop, with spanwise contributions from Gerard Kranenbarg and Jan Visser for the foundational textures, and Bob Rivera for spinprop details. The package recreates a distinctive piece of aviation heritage, tracing the lineage of an actual DC-2 once cared for by the Douglas Historical Foundation and subsequently residing at the Museum of Flight in Seattle under TWA colors.
Background on This 1930s Twin-Engine Legend
The DC-2 represented a major step forward in commercial aviation during the mid-1930s. Its robust twin-engine configuration and streamlined metal fuselage paved the way for more refined models, influencing the eventual production of the iconic DC-3. Many airlines, including TWA, utilized the DC-2 for regional and transcontinental routes. Enthusiasts will find this particular livery notable for replicating the aircraft’s coloration as aligned with the Douglas Historical Foundation’s dedication to preserving vintage aviation.

Key Repaint Details
This freeware texture set requires the base DC-2 package from the “Uiver” Team to function properly. You can locate the necessary freeware base model in the Fly Away Simulation library. Once installed, the aircraft selection menu will display an elegant DC-2 in the livery that showcases the Douglas Historical Foundation’s hallmark. The historical registration NC1934D, which harkens back to mid-century designations, is retained for authenticity. Panel, virtual cockpit, and interior aspects originate from the dedicated efforts of Rob Cappers and Jan Visser, with XML gauge programming handled by HansJoerg Naegele.
Installation Procedure
- Extract dc2_douglas.zip into a temporary directory, making sure to preserve the internal folder setup.
- Within the resulting files, copy the texture.dc2 folder into your Douglas DC2 directory located under “Flight Simulator 9/AIRCRAFT/” (or “Microsoft Flight Simulator X/SimObjects/Airplanes”) depending on your simulator.
- Open the aircraft.cfg file using a text editor. Append the code shown below after the final [flightsim.XX] entry, and then adjust “XX” to maintain sequential numbering:

Optional FSX Service Pack 2 Step
Should you have FSX SP2 installed, locate dc2_fsx-sp2.zip in your base package materials. Copy the included A_spinprop.bmp into the texture.dc2 folder. This additional step ensures visually correct propeller animations in FSX.
The archive dc2_dc2.zip has 40 files and directories contained within it.
