Editorial
Looking to enjoy a new and engaging way to interact with the FSX world? Then this is probably about as close to the real thing as you are likely to get at this moment in time for free. This design by Mitsuya Hamaguchi is one of the most enjoyable systems that I have taken on in recent times, and it looks absolutely brilliant both inside and outside.
So, how does it perform?
The Performance
This manages to really capture the essence of a boat like this, giving you all the control that you need as you sail up whatever coast you please. The boat operates very smoothly and is easy to turn when on the water, making it much easier – and safer – to navigate the seas with this. As a massive ship that looks excellent and carries a genuine freedom about it, this can be a lot of fun to use for those who are used to the more rigid nature of the aircraft in FSX.
The detail on the ship is a brilliant little extra that looks absolutely wonderful, giving you a real appreciation of what the deck of a shop of this size might look like in the first place. The performance of the boat is not something that I would question at all, really, as it feels the way that any cruise I’ve ever had the pleasure of being on does!
Some might say it feels a bit quick but I didn’t really notice that myself – it feels about right.
The Detail
The attention to detail and design quality is something that Mitsuya is renowned for, and it shows again in this mod. The ship looks absolutely brilliant, with all of those little features coming to life and making it feel a whole lot more comfortable and authentic. It’s the atmosphere as much as anything else that makes a fun flight and this does a great job of doing just that. This feels like an impressive take on what must be a very hard mod to make, so I’m deeply impressed by Mitsuya and his creations.
Something that always really impresses me about projects like this, though, is the awesome level of detail on the interior. The “cockpit” if you will feels really clear and easy to navigate from, whilst also making sure that the ship can be as powerful as you need it to be.
The whole idea of using this mod is that it captures the realism of sailing instead of flying. Whilst I’ve only ever commandeered a much smaller vessel than this, it feels absolutely brilliant to hop onto this and enjoy the precision that it offers as you sail across the world.
