Enhance your virtual flights in Microsoft Flight Simulator 2004 with this specialized AFCAD2 layout for Prestwick Airport. Developed by John Hinson in conjunction with detailed scenery crafted by Ian Gallagher, this freeware modification refines the airport’s operational flow so that both user-operated and AI-controlled aircraft can follow accurate taxiways, gate assignments, and runway usage. Scottish airports like Prestwick serve as key transit hubs, and this custom file prioritizes realistic routing without affecting your default setup.

Refined Airport Configuration for Strategic Operations

This AFCAD2 enhancement is intended exclusively for the add-on environment provided by Ian Gallagher. Once installed, pilots can program authentic flight routes and receive improved Air Traffic Control vectors for departure and arrival. AI planes will use appropriate parking zones while taxiing and hold in correct queue positions. This design also allows enthusiasts to add tailored AI schedules, ensuring a busy backdrop resembling real-world Prestwick.

Installation Procedure

  • Backup Before Changes: It is always recommended to secure copies of existing files before any modifications are applied.
  • Locate the Scenery Folder: Place the AF2_xxxx.bgl files directly into the scenery directory where Ian Gallagher’s Prestwick add-on is installed. This is intentionally different from the usual FS9\Addon Scenery\scenery path because disabling the dedicated Prestwick scenery will also disable the custom data. Typically, you might store them under a path resembling: FS9\addonscenery\Prestwick\scenery.
  • Restart Your Simulator: Once the files are copied, launch (or restart) Microsoft Flight Simulator 2004 to load the updated airport data.

Optional AI Flight Plans

If you decide to populate Prestwick with custom airline schedules, the AFCAD2 configuration is set up to accommodate various types of traffic. Although this file does not provide direct AI flight plan creation steps, there are numerous resources available discussing flight scheduling and aircraft allocations.

Removal Steps

  • Simply remove the AF2_xxxx.bgl files from the Prestwick scenery folder, and the default airport information will be restored.

This configuration ensures that Ian Gallagher’s scenery and John Hinson’s AFCAD2 layout work seamlessly together, giving you a more authentic experience at Scotland’s historic Prestwick Airport.
