This freeware repaint showcases the iconic Gloster Meteor F8 in Royal Netherlands Air Force markings, specifically referencing aircraft 3P:8 from no. 324 Squadron at Leeuwarden Air Base. Created by Peter Watkins, this repaint requires Rob Richardson’s detailed Gloster Meteor F8 model for Microsoft Flight Simulator X Acceleration. Although the base package is not included, it can be found in the Fly Away Simulation mod library.

Aircraft Background and Unique Features

The Gloster Meteor F8 (sometimes called the Meteor Mk 8) emerged as a refined derivative of earlier Meteor variants, introducing improved Rolls-Royce Derwent engines and an extended tail to enhance stability. This upgrade helped numerous air forces immediately following World War II, and the Royal Netherlands Air Force (RNLAF) took advantage of its agility and reliability. Stationed at Leeuwarden Air Base, no. 324 Squadron used this jet to bolster early post-war aerial readiness.

Key Repaint Details

This livery reproduces the Royal Netherlands Air Force scheme associated with 3P:8, emphasizing historically accurate roundels and squadron markings. It captures external panel lines and color transitions with precision. Moreover, subtle details are reflected, such as tail codes and fuselage numbering, to elevate immersion in Microsoft Flight Simulator X.
