FS2004

The F-16 Fighting Falcon has long captured the admiration of virtual pilots who crave a highly maneuverable single-engine supersonic jet. This freeware Thunderbird variant for FS2002 and Microsoft Flight Simulator 2004 brings an exciting demonstration-style livery to your simulator, complete with a carefully modeled Virtual Cockpit that takes advantage of detailed custom gauges. The package is entirely standalone and ready for use, making it an excellent addition to any modern military hangar on Fly Away Simulation.

Precision Through Gmax Craftsmanship

The original assembly, meticulously developed by Kirk Olsson, showcases advanced Gmax modeling that ensures every curve and panel line is visually accurate. Enthusiasts will appreciate its polished shape and the refined geometry that go hand-in-hand with high-performance flight simulation demands.

Notable Visual Refinements

Enhanced Animations

Expect to find full-motion surfaces, retractable landing gear, and subtle canopy motions. These animations are integrated with the flight envelope for realistic behavior under variable conditions.

Dynamic Reflectivity

Dynamic shine, also known as real-time reflectivity, has been incorporated to provide metallic reflections across the entire airframe. This adds dimension and authenticity to the vivid Thunderbird paint scheme, especially visible during bright daylight missions.

Thunderbird Livery Details

The traditional red, white, and blue motif mirrors the famous demonstration team’s iconic appearance. Developed for exhibition flights, this high-visibility scheme pays tribute to aerial precision and national pride, offering a striking presentation both on the ground and in flight.

Virtual Cockpit Integration

A fully realized Virtual Cockpit grants a panoramic viewpoint of the F-16’s instrument panel and HUD. Due to its reliance on certain gauges, it is advised to use Eric Marciano's freeware F-16 panel for complete compatibility. The panel.cfg file included in this package is carefully aligned with that panel’s gauge layouts. Consult the text documents found within the download for straightforward instructions on acquiring and setting up the recommended panel.

Complete Freeware Package

This release arrives as Thunderbird.ZIP (approximately 6 MB). It serves as a standalone aircraft mod requiring no external base model. Both Kirk Olsson and Eric Marciano deserve credit for bringing this enhanced experience to the community, ensuring total immersion for those who enjoy high-speed, agile fighter jets in either FS2002 or Microsoft Flight Simulator 2004. Be sure to explore every corner of this agile platform in your next virtual airshow or dogfight scenario.
