This freeware package provides a redesigned Boeing 747-400F with Pacific Skycargo markings, updated to perform smoothly in FSX. It includes various refinements, improved flight handling, and new lighting features without compromising the original visual qualities. Created by Melvin Rafi (model) and enhanced by David Grindele (conversion), this build showcases advanced cargo operations while paying tribute to Meljet’s legacy.
Overview
Developed from the original “Meljet” design by Melvin Rafi, this release modernizes the classic 747-400F for current simulators. David Grindele converted the aircraft to FSX format, ensuring refined flight parameters and stable performance. The result merges authentic details with upgraded elements that sustain the lifelike ambiance Meljet introduced for earlier simulator platforms.
Key Enhancements
- Reworked flight dynamics for smoother control under FSX standards.
- Revamped air and CFG files, retaining the airframe’s original feel.
- Inclusion of A2A 3D Lights and Redux (if installed) for realistic lighting.
- Maintained integrity of engine cowlings, which open with Shift+E for service views.
- Compatible jetway operation accessed with Ctrl+J for seamless gate integration.
Additional Notes
This design supports the cargo variant typical of many global freight carriers. The Boeing 747-400F (commonly known as a “jumbo” cargo platform) features wide-body construction suitable for long-distance routes. With these updates, the aircraft preserves the classic Meljet aesthetic while adapting to newer operating systems and simulator features.
Testing confirmed operation on Windows Vista (32-bit) and Windows XP, all within FSX. Although some users operated older Meljet models in FS2000 or FS2002, these improvements fine-tune performance for modern environments.
Installation Steps
- Extract the included “Aircraft” folder into your FSX installation path within SimObjects/Airplanes/.
- Open FSX, select “MELJET” from the aircraft manufacturer menu, and choose the Pacific Skycargo 747-400F.
- Ensure A2A 3D Lights & Redux is installed for advanced lighting effects (not mandatory but recommended).
