Offering a dynamic take on carrier-based operations, this freeware package features the Royal Navy BAE Harrier FA2 for Microsoft Flight Simulator X. It depicts a naval jump jet known for its vertical/short take-off and landing abilities, and it includes multiple loadouts as well as several paint schemes by the developers, Matthew Ivey and UKMIL.

Key Aspects of the FA2 Variant

The Sea Harrier FA2 is an upgraded interpretation of the original airframe, introducing enhanced radar capabilities and improved engine performance. Royal Navy squadrons historically used this model to fulfill air defense tasks from small deck carriers. Its thrust vectoring nozzles grant it the signature VTOL configuration, letting it maneuver in tight spaces and operate under unconventional conditions.

Loadouts and Textures

This release arrives with nine distinct weapons configurations, allowing users to simulate diverse mission profiles. Each layout is tailored to different engagements, ranging from air-to-air intercept to ground attack. In addition, five unique texture sets present authentic liveries that reflect the varied Royal Navy service history of the Sea Harrier platform.

Flight Deck Integration

Prepared specifically for Microsoft Flight Simulator X, this mod showcases the Harrier’s short take-off and landing procedures. The included 2D cockpit panel offers a clear layout, while a simplified virtual cockpit (VC) contributes to immersion. For proper handling, it is strongly recommended to have FSUIPC installed (registered or unregistered). Without it, certain VTOL features and avionics may behave unexpectedly.

Installation and Setup

  • Run the self-extractor, which will place the necessary files into the correct simulator folders. (Note that it does not offer an uninstaller.)
  • When first loading the aircraft, you may receive security notifications about gauges. Allow them to run and confirm any prompts to integrate new entries into the simulator’s config file. This ensures smooth operation in subsequent flights.

Be sure to consult the included PDF for more detailed procedures, credits, and general documentation. Following the recommended guidelines helps maximize the full potential of this Sea Harrier add-on.

Panel Resources and Acknowledgments

The main 2D panel bitmap is contributed by Phil Perrott, and the HUD plus radar components come courtesy of EIRC MARCIANO. These enhancements all combine to create a more immersive cockpit environment. The collaborative effort by Matthew Ivey and UKMIL, who crafted the overall model and textures, ensures a faithful representation of this iconic naval jet.
