Editorial
As a big fan of the McDonnell-Douglas MD-11, as soon as I came across this package I wanted to download it and try it out. My FS2004 has seen various versions of the MD-11 over the years, and I have to say that this style and format of the aircraft was one that really got my attention.
It looked a bit different to the norm, and I noticed it tended to include a chunk of the smaller features that you would not usually expect to see in something like this. However, add it all together and you’ve got a truly exciting process that is a whole lot of fun to fly around in, with all of those neat little extras adding together and making it feel rather complete instead of cluttered.
This model is an extremely effective solution for anyone who wants to get the MD-11 looking the part on their machine, and I was hugely impressed at the range of detail the developer has managed to fit in. With all of the basic covered like flight dynamics, accurate modelling and general scaling/styling of the model you will find that you are right at home as soon as you step into the cockpit.
It’s only when you start examining the newer features, though, that the strength and credibility of this platform soon becomes apparent. With new features such as animated control surfaces, flaps, thrust reversers, flaperons and much more all included you’ll have an aircraft that springs to life in the most authentic manner possible soon.
It really does help to sell the entire idea of the aircraft itself, though, as you should have no problems getting into the swing of things and helping you understand what part of the cockpit dos what, and how you can fly this plan effectively.
I was massively impressed, too, by the detail in the aircraft. For a start, the textures are spot on; every texture included has had multiple hours of work put into it, as it really does attach itself to the model perfectly and create a genuine recreation of this aircraft that really does look the part. When you add in the aft that it has such awesome lighting configuration, too, it soon becomes easy to know where this aircraft is flying and where you are in the skies; those pitch-black midnight runs are going to become a thing of the past!
Likewise, flexing wings, new wingviews, compressing gears, dynamic shines and opening doors are all included. These little things all come together and combine with the primary scale and dynamics of the aircraft to ensure that this really does match the real thing as closely as it possibly can. If you are wanting to try out the MD-11 in FS2004 and have found that some of the other versions out there are perhaps a bit dated, this might be a good place to start with due to the depth and the detail that it comes with across the board – a definite worthwhile add-on.
