Experience a detailed rendition of the iconic MD-83 in FS2004, complete with refined modeling and three unique liveries. This freeware release is courtesy of SGA (the creators), and it offers a realistic interpretation of the well-known jetliner utilized by carriers around the globe. It includes British West Indies Airlines marking, a recreation of Alaska Airlines colors, and a blank variant that is perfect for those who want to create their own unique paint schemes.

Authentic Model and Visual Characteristics

This package unveils a Gmax-constructed airframe that precisely mirrors the actual MD-83’s proportions. The distinctive elongated fuselage is recreated with remarkable detail, capturing both the subtle and prominent shaping. The pack provides the specialized tailcone variations, both the “flat” and the “coned” types, enabling simmers to observe the practical design differences used by certain airlines.

Functional Airstairs and Entry Points

Working airstairs, which are often found on these mid-range aircraft, are meticulously rendered. Passengers or crew can board directly, while the cargo doors also open, showcasing a robust simulation of real airline operations. The animated entryways align closely with real-world procedures for ground handling.

Retractable Landing Lights and Lighting Suite

Moreover, the retractable landing lights are fully operational, and the external illumination positions reflect the accurate layout seen on the actual type. You will notice the navigation lights, wingtip beacons, and tail illumination are placed to provide a faithful recreation when flying at night.

Performance and Enhancements

The MD-83, a refined extension of the popular MD-80 family, is generally known for its efficient twin-engine layout and extended range capabilities. In this add-on, flight dynamics have been calibrated to portray the aircraft’s real-world handling traits, including its climb rate and approach configurations. The model suits a variety of route lengths—from shorter feeder services to cross-country flights—mirroring what airlines do daily.

Wings, Flaps, and Control Surfaces

All primary and secondary flight surfaces are carefully animated, including the unique double-slotted flaps, spoilers, and elevators. This level of detail allows for realistic preflight checks and visual identification of correct control surface positions during each stage of your flight simulation session.

Livery Selection and Custom Repainting

Choose from a historic British West Indies Airlines paint scheme or replicate regional operations with the Alaska Airlines variant—both applied to highlight the aircraft’s sleek lines and extended fuselage. Additionally, a fully blank texture set is included, so repaint enthusiasts can design original color themes without needing any separate model download.
