Editorial

This remake of the MD-11 was high up on my list of things to try out because I always felt that this was an aircraft that was poorly represented at the time. This model, though, finally gives FS2004 a chance to do this aircraft a bit of genuine justice and to finally give it the credit that it deserved. As far as aircraft goes, the MD-11 is something I have a lot of time for despite the fact that it’s rather dull and basic – it does the job, it’s functional, and is my aircraft of choice for more simplistic flights.

Everything included within the model of this aircraft is incredibly important to note, as it all is based on the real thing. Nothing has been added in here as part of the dreaded ‘artists interpretation’ and instead you are left with a clear and concise looking project that easily manages to capture the detail and the style that you were hoping to see in the first place.

The aircraft model is so detailed that I really would struggle to point you in the direction of a better remake for FS2004. Whilst it might fall down compared to more modern FSX versions of the MD-11, the difference in quality will not be as large as the difference between this model and many of the others out there!

In truth I was so impressed with this package – I really did have a lot of fun just getting to grips with it and seeing how much of it was adding up in comparison to the real thing. Whilst it is a bit limited given it’s for a simulator that’s more than a decade old it’s not really a surprise to me, and the features that are included really do make it nice and easy to use on a regular basis!

It comes with some key features included with animated control surfaces, wingviews, flaps, flaperons and much more. All of these animations work in tandem with one another to make a highly entertaining design that really does all that it can to capture the depth and style needed to really understand why this package is so impressive.

When you add in the fact that the detail of the design and the skin itself – marking the FedEx design perfectly – you are left with a package that has no problems whatsoever matching up with its real-life counterpart.

The highly detailed and reflective textures just serve as a reminder as to what an aircraft can look like when you get it absolutely spot on, with all of those little features needed and all of those little additions being required to ensure that the whole thing can come together in the most distinctive manner it possibly could.

In short, the whole package looks spectacular and it will ensure that you are left with an aircraft that is easy to fly and a real gem to try and get to grips with thanks to the range of detail it carries in just about every last pixel.

Very good, but desperately needs a virtual cockpit, original 2D panel, proper sounds and taxiing bug fixes. Really love the model, though.

It looked great, but there was a few flaws. First, I followed all the install instructions as usual, and the engine sound didnt show up, only with my speaker volume on full, and only after the aircraft passed during takeoff in tower view. Even then the sound was very faint. When I landed, every time I proceeded to taxi off the runway it would eventually bounce and crash. A good model but sadly not as good is it looks.
