This freeware package upgrades three lesser-modeled UK airfields in Microsoft Flight Simulator X, bringing them closer to a realistic state. Created by Alf Denham, it relies on default scenery objects to add ground features and structures. The add-on focuses on boosting the immersion of smaller airports that often receive minimal attention in the default simulator.

Enhanced Airfield Environments at Underrepresented UK Locations

This volume addresses the lack of detail still found in certain UK airports, even though Microsoft Flight Simulator X improved upon previous versions (like Microsoft Flight Simulator 2004). Rather than replicating each airfield with photographic precision, the aim is to provide more realistic layouts by referencing Google Earth information and Pooleys UK Flight Guide. The result is an expanded environment for local flights and student pilot training exercises.

Included Sites in This Package

This release encompasses three locations:

  • EGSU Duxford – Famed for aviation heritage and regular air shows, Duxford is represented here with added buildings and a more defined layout.
  • EGSR Earls Colne – An airstrip favored by regional flight schools, now exhibiting improved surroundings and signage.
  • EGFE Haverfordwest – A Welsh airport serving local flyers, augmented to give a more authentic sense of the site.

Technical Notes and Development Tools

The project was constructed using the default FSX scenery library, along with the FSX SDK Object Placement Tool and Airport Design Editor v1.22. Because it relies on standard objects, there are no special model files to import. However, everything has been optimized for FSX SP2, so missing SP1 or SP2 may lead to compatibility inquiries.

Prior Volumes from the Same Creator

In earlier releases, Alf Denham refined additional small fields across the UK:

  • Volume 1: EGSL Andrewsfield, EGSQ Clacton, EGWC Cosford, EGTR Elstree, EGMD Lydd, EGTZ Old Warden, and EGHP Popham
  • Volume 2: EGTD Dunsfold, EGET Lerwick/Tingwall, and EGNF Netherthorpe
  • Volume 3: EGKH Lashenden, EGSX North Weald, EGCJ Sherburn-in-Elmett, and EGBS Shobdon
  • Volume 4: EGTB Booker (plus an alternative “BookerPlus” variant in the same folder), and EGST Elmsett

Note that Booker in Volume 4 contains extra Rwy12 objects, which is an exception to the otherwise pure default library approach.

Installation and Removal Process

To set up the enhanced fields, check for any included “ReadMe” files describing folder placement. Generally, you will copy the scenery folders into your main simulator directory and enable them within your scenery library. If you wish to uninstall, simply remove those files from the add-on folder and the entries within the scenery library.
