FSX Alf's UK Airfields Volume 7 Scenery

Alf Denham’s UK Airfields Volume 7 refreshes EGFA Aberporth/West Wales, EGPR Barra, and EGHU Eaglescott with more convincing layouts, buildings, and atmosphere while staying true to default object libraries for smooth performance in Microsoft Flight Simulator X. Built from aerial and guide references with FSX design tools, it requires FSX SP2.

Experience a refined set of smaller United Kingdom airfields in Microsoft Flight Simulator X with this free Volume 7 release, authored by the talented developer Alf Denham. These upgrades aim to inject fresh life into select airfields that previously lacked dimension and atmosphere, making domestic GA flights more immersive and visually engaging without straying from default scenery objects.

Improved British Airfields in This Package

This installment focuses on three notable fields:

  • EGFA Aberporth/West Wales – Situated in Ceredigion, this airfield supports a variety of aviation activities and features an extended runway for an easier approach.
  • EGPR Barra – Nestled in the Outer Hebrides, Barra distinguishes itself by a tidal beach runway that brings a unique challenge to short-field landings.
  • EGHU Eaglescott – Found in Devon, this field primarily hosts private and training operations. Its compact layout is complemented by modest support facilities.

Development Background and Design Notes

To craft these upgrades, the developer relied on aerial snapshots from Google Earth, along with references such as Pooleys UK Flight Guide. Alf Denham assembled each field using the FSX SDK Object Placement Tool and Airport Design Editor (v1.26), ensuring the sceneries align neatly with nominal in-sim positioning. Due to limited direct access or photographic records, the effort centers on approximating each airport’s general look and layout rather than delivering fully precise reproductions. Nonetheless, these additions significantly enhance realism compared to the plain default structures.

Utilizing Default FSX Assets

All buildings and objects draw on the standard FSX libraries for wide compatibility. Volume 7 follows the precedent set by earlier releases, meaning it does not rely on dedicated or custom object geometry (with the exception of the optional Rwy12 items introduced in a previous volume). This approach keeps performance overhead minimal and installation straightforward.

Installation and Removal

  • Installation: Follow the instructions in the included ReadMe files located within the download folders. Ensure that Service Pack 2 (SP2) for FSX is installed to prevent compatibility discrepancies.
  • Removal: To revert to standard scenery, simply delete the added files from your FSX installation directory.

How to install this mod

FSX / P3D scenery
  1. Extract the downloaded archive

Use 7-Zip (free) or WinRAR to extract the ZIP to a temporary folder. Don't install while still zipped — the simulator can't read inside ZIP files.
  2. Place scenery in Addon Scenery

Create a folder under FSX\Addon Scenery\ containing scenery and texture sub-folders.
  3. Activate in Scenery Library

In FSX, go to Settings → Scenery Library → Add Area. Higher priority means it overrides lower entries for the same location.
  4. Always read the included readme

Every mod ships with a readme.txt or README file. It tells you exactly where files go, what dependencies are needed, and any quirks specific to this add-on.

Great site. I was so glad to find EGFE and EGFA, because I have just started to learn to fly and am learning at EGFE while practising on FSX .

    Many thanks, Ross
