This freeware add-on provides a refined AFCAD file for San Giusto Airport (LIRP) in Pisa. It updates crucial airport elements in Microsoft Flight Simulator X, offering accurately assigned parking spots, revised ground routes, and enhanced facilities. Created by Ray Smith, it also reconstructs essential details such as taxiways, signage, and service roads. Below, you'll find guidance for proper installation, along with images showcasing these improvements at this Italian hub.

Key Layout Adjustments for Detailed Accuracy

The developer, Ray Smith, employed the latest iteration of Airport Design Editor (often abbreviated ADE) to generate two vital BGL files. These files refine the original layout by expanding parking availability and updating signage conventions around the airport environment. To improve immersion, the tower view has been carefully configured so that users can easily survey the entire airfield from a single vantage point.

Included Files

LIRP_ADE_RS.BGL
Primary AFCAD layer that reconfigures parking assignments, taxiway lines, and supplemental pathways.
LIRP_ADE_OBJ.BGL
Serves as an object file to introduce extra features, including the proper placement of fuel trucks and service routes.

Steps for Correct Integration

  1. Move LIRP_ADE_RS.BGL into your “Addon Scenery/scenery” directory. This ensures the new airport layout is recognized by the simulator.
  2. Place LIRP_ADE_OBJ.BGL in the “Scenery/Global/scenery” folder to enable unique objects and visual enhancements.
  3. Enabling the jetway extension: If these textures are not already active, copy the jfk_jetway.dds and jfk_jetway_LM.dds files found in FSX\Scenery\NAME\Texture and paste them into Scenery\Global\Texture. This step activates the updated jetway appearance.
  • Note: If this process has been performed for another one of Ray Smith’s airports, you can skip copying those texture files again.

Preventing File Conflicts

  • Ensure that only one LIRP .bgl file is present in your Addon Scenery/scenery directory at any time.
  • If you use AI traffic packages, verify that no duplicate AFCADs for LIRP are active, as that can cause overlap or misalignment issues.

Removal Process

  1. Delete both BGL files from their directories. The default airport configuration will be restored after they are removed.

Enhancing the Tower Perspective

San Giusto Airport, located in Pisa, rewards virtual pilots with an authentic vantage point from the control tower. For flexible tower viewing, map a specific key or controller button to the “View track/pan Toggle” function in your control settings. Toggling this command unlocks your viewpoint within the tower so you can freely pan and survey the runway, taxiways, and aprons in all directions, then switch back to the default view with a simple press.

AFCAD files (AF2_*.bgl or AFX_*.bgl) go into FSX\Addon Scenery\Scenery\ or a dedicated AFCAD folder you create.
  3. Always read the included readme

Every mod ships with a readme.txt or README file. It tells you exactly where files go, what dependencies are needed, and any quirks specific to this add-on.
