The Gamma family was an outgrowth of the Alpha, initially serving as a rugged civilian transport the Gamma eventually found it's way into military service with the US, Spain, China as war approached. On 2 June 1933 Frank Hawks set the transcontinental speed record in the Gamma 2A "Texaco 11" named Sky Chief flying from Los Angeles to Floyd Bennett Field in New York (13 h 26 m 15 sec.)
