This release brings a freeware rendition of the Northwest Airlines Boeing 757-300 into FS2004, merging a detailed exterior framework with realistic flight characteristics. The aircraft showcases Pratt & Whitney engine modeling and is offered as a complete package. The creators, Project Open Sky, developed the core model, and Ben Hewitt meticulously applied the Northwest livery. Below, you will discover specialized features, distinct animations, technical aspects, and essential installation steps.
Aircraft Structure and Advanced Attributes
- Refined exterior reflections (often referred to as “dynamic shine”) to highlight the fuselage and wings.
- Selectable flight deck views, allowing you to switch between an internal wing perspective or an operational Virtual Cockpit (VC).
- Functional cabin doors and cargo hatches that simulate realistic airline procedures.
- Animated 3D cabin crew in the passenger area, providing additional immersion.
- Comprehensive moving surfaces including flaps, slats, rudders, and spoilers.
- Highly refined FDE (Flight Dynamics Engine) for performance authenticity.
- Airframe dimensions true to Boeing’s extended 757-300 specifications, which lengthen the base 757-200 fuselage and accommodate more seats.
- Accurate performance data generated from real-world pilot feedback and engine performance charts.
- Complete damage profiles for crucial areas, like main body sections, wing flaps, landing gear struts, tires, and engines.
- Varied engine configurations with tailored fuel consumption and thrust curves to reflect different Pratt & Whitney PW2000-series units.
- Engine-specific gauges precisely aligned with respective powerplant settings.
- Toggle gear positioning (default or alternate) for visual fidelity versus flight handling preferences.
- Included operations manual that outlines speed guidelines and recommended flight procedures.
- Enhanced lighting blueprint upgraded for FS2004’s rendering engine.
Notable Airline Heritage
Northwest Airlines, before merging into another major carrier, served countless domestic and international routes using a varied fleet. The Boeing 757-300, known for its longer fuselage, delivered added capacity on busier segments while maintaining an efficient fuel profile. This simulation aligns with that operational history, offering a glimpse into Northwest’s mid-haul and transcontinental services.
Proper File Placement and Setup
- Extract the contents and move the resulting aircraft folder into your FS2004 “Aircraft” directory.
- Relocate the included gauge file into the main “Gauges” folder under FS2004.
- Place any effects into your primary “Effects” folder.
Virtual Cockpit Enabling
If you plan to activate the VC, make sure you have installed the additional VC textures and the 757-300 VC update files. Then open aircraft.cfg and, on the line beginning with model=, append VC directly after the equals sign. This step shifts the model from a wing-focused variant to the fully operational virtual cockpit.

This mod prides itself on faithfully replicating the extended Boeing 757-300 silhouette while capturing the distinctive Northwest Airlines paint scheme. The package is a freeware release from Project Open Sky and Ben Hewitt, offering an all-inclusive experience for those looking to immerse themselves in a classic mid-to-late 1990s airliner configuration within FS2004.
